Used it at work. My company has developed a market-leading app in our industry and it's great. As a consumer device, however, I find it utterly pointless. Saw a survey the other day that said 72% of ipad users rated it as either 'terrible' or 'poor' value for money.
That's interesting, cos like I said because of my phone I genuinely don't use my laptop anymore, but at the same time my iPhone is the one thing I'd like to get rid of : go figure...
Only people who diss iPad or apple are those that have never owned one. My laptop barely sees the light of day now. Sitting in front of the tv I can just pick up something as light as a feather, and that isn't even iPad 2, and be on CL in seconds. Who wants to sit around powering up a half ton laptop. If you can afford it invest in an iPad, you won't regret it.
I got my girlfriend a Sony tablet and she loves it. Got her that for the flash player as she likes to stream her Yank programs like criminal minds etc. I havent done (yet) but i bet its great for bathroom porn.
If i got one for myself I would probably get an Ipad as im a bit of an app junkie.
I've had an iPad for a while and it's just great for surfing, reading, photos, music, radio, downside is no flash so some video won't play but it seems that might be improving with html5 - whatever that is.
i started a new job on Monday, opened up the bottom drawer to find a brand new IPad in there as Part of my work tools. I'm posting this from it now. So far I am really enjoying it!
Lots of IPAD lovers out there. But, what does it do that a laptop cannot do? New laptops can also be sleek and light etc, plus have more memory, hard disk and significantly more computing power than an IPAD.
I'm fairly open minded about it - happy to be convinced that an IPAD is better than a laptop - but so far nothing has been said that has convinced me.
The Ipad is amazing. I was also sceptical but it has totally changed my life (especially when travelling).
The best thing about it for me is speed, transportability, and simply the way it looks and feels (call it aesthetics if you will, Steve Jobs' obsession). Sit on the train or at the a pub with a laptop and you like a IT geek - the Ipad looks cool by comparison.
In short for everything except writing reports or long emails (which even then the wireless keyboard effectively turns it into a laptop), it is vastly superior.

Excuse my ignorance, see other thread about wanting a cheap laptop, but what are the pros and cons of an ipad compared to a laptop? Particularly for someone that has a "normal" life, uses a computer at work every day so just wants to have something to occasionally surf the internet, send emails and wind people up on Charlton Life with?
iPads seem a bit OTT pricey to me, simply for something that "looks good" or is "tactile". (FFS, do some people REALLY treat it like a fashion accessory? Sad.)

Some brave and frank admissions there Large. Fair play.
I've just moved into a new shared house and don't have my own smart phone or pc, so no internet!! Fortunately, I do have access to flat mates tablets being an iPad and a Galaxy Tab...
Galaxy tab is much smaller at 10.1", much lighter and much better for reading a book on train say, it feels good in one hand - where as the ipad I find better for browsing internet pages sat on sofa...
However iPad lack of flash has been a bit of a killer for me, given the price you have to pay for it, it's rather a shame to not be able to watch footie highlights on bbc, listen to charlton comentry on the cafc player or really have the full internet at your disposal.. I did find for general browsing this issue cropped up far more often than I thought it would, flash is everywhere it seems and you will deffinetly notice this restriction to some degree... iPad wonderful to use, just a shame on the no flash and price.
Personally i'd probably go for a small netbook at a much more reasonble cost, followed by an android tablet...
I was dubious before buying my iPad 2 about how I would use it etc but I cant imagine life without it now.
I'm using it a huge amount for work as Senior Management has now gone completely paperless and we all read papers via Dropbox which is an absolute god send.
For those of you using flash-intensive websites, you can get a number of browser apps which play most of the flash sites. Skyfire and vBrowse are good for that. If you like to be a bit secretive about your internet viewing...ahem...I can thoroughly recommend Atomic Web which allows completely private browsing so if a wife/partner ever picks the 'pad up, they'll never have a clue what you've been watching
Also, remote desktop on iPad is excellent for controlling your home PCs when stuck at work or on the train.
Think Sky Go is the most used app though...you cant beat watching test match cricket whilst stuck at your desk in the office!
Main thing it give you is portability, ever tried reading your low powered mouse driven netbook whilst standing on the morning cattle truck?
I have both, and would never tell people what to choose but if you look at your own usage which in my case is web and email reading and a bit of typing, plus it regularly entertains my son via a kid proof case, etc sure it's not everything to all folk, but then sometimes gadgets make up for this by being cool in iPads case, and by leading elsewhere by basically enlarging the scope of iPhone apps to much wider and easier use for what is the new way of accessing web based stuff.
I have had an iPad since they first came out and it is mainly used as a web browser for the front room but me and Mrs KHA, but the best thing about it (an NYA says) is for travel - especially for children. You really can get ten hours plus out of it if you're just watching TV or movies you've loaded onto it. That plus the games from the app store (most of which are free) It kept my son quiet all the way to America, and he is now no trouble at all in the car on a long journey. One iPad and one pair of headphones and we get peace and quiet all the way to our destination.
It is a lot of money, and I can understand how people would think it's too much for what it does, but now that we have one if it broke we'd go straight out and buy a replacement, immediately.
In fairness, I suspect that all the other tablets do pretty much the same thing so it doesn't have to be an iPad, but once you've had one you'd never want to be without it.

And that's just a phone...
: go figure...
I think it's more than a little unbalanced to compare new technology like the iPad to an ageing half ton lap top

Absolutely this. Great piece of kit.
Used it when travelling this week, email, Internet, reading, video download, games ... And lightweight too. Terrific.

It's the smallest one they do, is that the 7inch?
