This is his record at Sunderland.

If they were all PL games then that would be a per-game point average of 1.17, taking them to 44.6 points in an EPL season, low-to-mid table in most seasons.

That's what Sunderland are, aren't they?

Benitez apparently 2nd favourite for the job. Can't see him dropping that far but would be an incredible appointment.

O'Neill seems the obvious choice though.
  • Options
O'neill would be a way better appointment for Sunderland than Benitez.
  • Options
Whatever his merits, I can't stand his simple-minded way of speaking... certainly won't miss hearing his ponderous dross!

Why would O'Neil take the Sunderland job? They are on the way down.
  • Options
Wherever O'Neill goes he only ever stays for ten minutes.

Apparently he is a Sunderland fan so that could tempt him and Sunderland have money to spend so that could tempt him even more.

A Sunderland mate of mine will be pleased, thinks he is an awful manager and the amount they spent over the summer it is not hardly suprising.

Miserable team to watch, added nothing to the premiership this season, has a team full of passionless mercenaries too.

    Teams managed
    1987–1989 Grantham Town
    1989 Shepshed Charterhouse
    1990–1995 Wycombe Wanderers
    1995 Norwich City
    1995–2000 Leicester City
    2000–2005 Celtic
    2006–2010 Aston Villa

Seems I've done him a disservice. Better stick ability than I thought. Cheers GA

    A Sunderland fan?

Why would an Ulster raised bloke be a Mackem?

Not sure but this is what I heard.

Lee Clarke might be a favourite aswell

Agreed. I feel that the Huddle Bubble is burst and he'll be away. He played in the same side as Niall Quinn (beaten play off finalist against you know who). He's a geordie not a mackem but may be forgiven that. On the downside he's taking over an aging, demoralised and not very good group of overpaid and well over priced players. The board might decide that an O'Neill type manager would be a better deal, but Clarke is the man for the long run.

How Steve Bruce has continued to find quality jobs with his dismal record is a mystery. He's a Machiavellian character but a very unsuccessful one. He must be terrific company in the bar, and by the look of him it could well be that that has been the reaason behind the Sunderland downfall, the manager spending too much time socialising and not enough time managing.

Lee Clark will never be Sunderland manager. Trust me.

Steve Bruce just managed not to overtake Curbs in the list of premiership losses. The list is:

    Harry Redknapp (205)
    Alan Curbishley (135)
    Steve Bruce (133)

    Because you should.

misleading that. The more PL games you manage the greater your losses will get (unless you are Fergie of course)

True. I'd like to see it as a percentage but I didn't have those stats.

Clark and the Newcastle shirt business? ... remember George Graham ?, he had the Arsenal badge 'entiled' in his swimming pool. In this day all that means nothing, loyalty and tribal allegiance takes second place to pragmatic management and financial realism.

    Different situation i'm afraid Lincs.

so why did Darren Bent leave Sunderland in January - was it simply the offer from Villa or was he unsettled?
  • Options
He was quite settled up there. In a different type of sack than Bruce has just recieved, although Bruce may well have owned the one Benty was enjoying.....If you get me drift chaps?

Martin "i can jump high on the touchline and look like what i am doing and show emotion " ONEIL  is shite and if he goes to sunderland he will want £200 million for new players to keep them up

He is so out of touch his first 2 Buys  --Draren Bent and Asomah Gyan --

Only one man for the Job

They will then know whata bad manager is image

His mother being racially abused by a Sunderland fan at an away game versus Wigan in November 2009, would not have helped.

Whenever there is a PL vacancy O'Neills name always comes up, why? What has he achieved to put him at the top of everyone's shopping list?

I heard about Bent and the gaffers princess.

No idea if its true though, obviously ;)
