Who was there? This was a classic cup tie and although we lost there was drama galore.
I can still remember the rain lashing down and we were all huddled under the stand roof.
These days the match would be abandoned, have a look at the state of the pitch and the
players towards the end, especially Paul Williams. Hilarious!

As Chris Kamara would say " Unbelievable"

How we didn`t score in that 2nd half is beyond belief! Did we beat Kettering in the 3rd
round at Selhurst? Seem to remember playing them at some point!

Ball was going wide till it hit a puddle and went in. Sat in the stand for this one.
  • Yep, I was there with my Dad and a mate.
Puddle had a bet on West Brom. Typical.

Naylor was a quality keeper. Remember a game in about 94 on the box where we drew 1-1 at the valley, battered them but he kept us out
  • I was there with nla, fatrob and a few others poxy puddle and I think we missed a pen as well. I seem to remember everyone come out from under the little roof only for the pen to be saved. Unless I've mixed up me matches

  • I was there, another bad day out.
    Wet, miserable and sober.

Haha I remember the game but don't remember the puddle diverting the ball in. I thought Williams rounded the keeper at some stage and the ball held up in a puddle though but didn't see in the video. The Southend game where we missed 2 pens stays in head like this one does.

I was there and it's the only game I remember that a puddle scored the goal!! Going wide hit the puddle and bent in
  • I was there with my dad. That pitch was so muddy, the players were sliding all over the place. Some late tackles i remember. I felt we were going to get something out of it and was well disappointed at the end.

I was there too. Dismal wet day, pitch unplayable. We came away shaking our heads in disbelief that we'd actually lost. Their keeper and his goalposts were Man of the Match..

Stonewall penalty in the first half should have been given and the defender sent off.

I was at that one. Amazing really that it wasn't abandoned. Unless the memory is playing tricks, I seem to remember Peakey sliding around haplessly in the later highlights.

Miserable day that one, remember it well. Persuaded my late father to drive up in the Escort 1.3L. Kettering brought loads to Selhurst in the cup. Orient in the seventies was proper wet, abandoned at half time. Swindon was also memorable for wet reasons.
  • Orient was abandoned at half time, another crap day out. God i've had a few of them following this club.
But the good times (like now) are so much sweeter for them

When Orient was re-played didn`t we need a point to stay up? 0.0 draw I think in the end!

I was there. No way that game would be played today - though am still not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

Remember going up there a few years later midweek and getting equally as soaked. Bloody horrible place.

Isn't The Hawthorns supposed to be the League ground at the highest altitude in England?

I was there, and at the night game that Offy mentions. Even wetter that night as they had demolished the end by then, and we all had to stand in the uncovered bit in the corner.
  • As for wet games, anyone remember Forest in the rain on the open terrace. losing 4-0 and started doing a conga and singing, 'were all wet, your're not, you're not!!'
  • i think cos the match of the day cameras were there it gave a little more reason for the game to be on

i was at both wet hawthorn games

anyone wanna own up to going behind the goal to get on telly and ending up putting walshie off his penalty
i can't remember think i may have been one of em!

there's deffo another camera angle of footage where it shows the ball was gonna hit the post or go wide before the puddle deflects it in !

Our lot got off at Coventry on way back from this game! Had a few beers and fun in town and can still remember our walk back !
  • I went to the Kettering game at shitehurst, can't remember why - but was the only home game I went to there

I was there. Remembered the puddle, although from where we were (behind the opposite goal) it looked like the ball floated across the line. Didn't remember the penalty at all. Weirdly, my main memory apart from getting absolutely drenched is turning round to discover my usually incredibly proper mother joining in with "the referee's a wanker" chants - not sure what brought that on but think it might've been the incident where Williams got pulled back in the area.
