  • Social media...what a strange concept and time we live in. On the one hand we have scum out there prepared to use it to make their disgusting, hateful point or campaign for this piece of human detritus. On the other we've seen over the last 24 hours it harnessed to generate enormous sums of money for a great cause in extremely sad circumstances.

On balance I still loath twitter...

The medium is not the message

  • True Henry but it gives morons like his mate who named the victim a platform for their views in an instant. I doubt very much he would have written what he did if it were to a newspaper but because it's only on the net the damage caused doesn't seem to register.

Hopefully the authorities will be knocking on a few doors of some of Evan's supporters.

A charity has made a formal complaint to the police about the tweets so we shall see.

I find it all completely unbelievable....Even his girlfriend is sticking buy him!

She is quoted as calling him 'her soul mate'. Yes, he's a real catch darling.
I'm just thinking out loud, but isn't he rich?

At the risk of saying the wrong thing, he cheated on her. He had sex with a girl that might not have been sober enough to consent. He had sex with the same girl that his friend had sex with. In an ideal world that sort of behaviour would be enough to make his girlfriend decide to have nothing to do with him, but he is a rich, famous footballer who probably guarantees that she never needs to work again yet can still have the kind of lifestyle that we all dream about.

I'm Just thinking out loud again, but where does his girlfriend live? Is there any chance that she lives in a nice place that he owns? Is there any chance that she drives around in a nice car that he owns?

I'm not casting aspersions as to why she is with him in the first place, but there does seem to be a large number of girls that want to 'catch' a millionaire footballer. Now that she's got one maybe she doesn't want to let him go.

Also she could believe what he has told her, she could believe that he is innocent. He might even get off if he has an appeal, then she has just given up the millionaire WAG lifestyle to punish him for having a drunken one night stand - something that many footballers seem unable to turn down.

Most rapes don't even get reported as women and men can't face the trial and public humiliation. Of those that do begin the long legal journey, a great many will drop out and only 6% of cases will eventually result in a prosecution. It would now seem to be the case that rape victims will not only have to defend their character whilst the character of the accused gets bypassed, they will also have to face Trial by Twitter and trial and abuse by football sites. Licence to rape appears to be the guiding motto of some, it's a bit like being in Afghanistan.
Here is a very clear opportunity to explain the law and to educate some males about notions of freedoms and responsibility. It would have been brilliant to see Sheffield United club leading the way on this ome. Its silence is both deafening and shaming.

Still, since I heard my 13 year old nephew say a few weeks back that he had 'raped' his 10 year old brother at playstation football, then proceeded to call him 'gay' when he complained about something not fifteen minutes later, it's hardly surprising.

Seeing as you are someone, who by their own admission, swears like the proverbial trooper in public, private or any company and sees nothing wrong with it I agree with you......It's hardly surprising!

Sorry, but I have to disagree

The rape victim has had her reputation tarnished and people on twitter have been making a lot assumptions about her based on very little.

It now seems that Evens' partner is being having her reputation tarnished, although in a much lesser way, also on very little evidence.

People may well think she is wrong to support her boyfriend but how does that prove she is a gold digger. Yes, I know KHA said he's "not casting aspersions" but he quite clearly is,

The inference is clear. She is a WAG only interested in her nice house and car and nothing else. But there is no evidence for the huge leaps that KHA is making and others are agreeing with.

The Krays loved their Mum and were good boys.

It is natural for family and friends to support their own especially when there MIGHT be an element of ambiguity re the safety of the conviction.

There is nothing surprising about that.

As things stand though Evans is guilty of rape and 2 1/2 years (in real terms) is a woefully inadequate sentence for that offence.

cant see many other reasons for her to want to be with someone that has cheated on her and commited one of the worst crimes possible?

Of course. Why let the indiscretions or in this case criminal activities of a wealthy and famous male partner get in the way of an opulent existance.

Some elements within this WAG culture is in all but name a prostitution racket.....with payment made in the form of a `lifestyle' as opposed to cold hard cash.

Maybe she loves him and has forgiven him, maybe she doesn't believe he has committed the rape.

Maybe she is a millionaire's daughter or runs her own business and earns more than Evans. Maybe she is very gullible and stupid and yes, maybe she is a gold digger.

Thing is we don't know. Which is why jumping to assumptions or saying "I can't see many other reasons" doesn't help.

she's a jewellers assistant, so gold digger would seem very apt.

Ok, lets ignore the crime, whether he is guilty or not...he cheated on her. That in my book is enough to distant herself from the maggot.

Are you trying to tell me that sometimes women will put aside all morals, all dignity and effectively prostitute themselves in order to live a life of luxury? Because that might be too much for me to handle.

In your book. That's fine. It's your view.

But there are many couples where one party has had an affair or one night stand and the relationship has continued.

More importantly the girlfriend is not on trial.

I suspect Colleen is wealthier than Wayne is at this point, and her earnings potential won't be abruptly reduced when she gets to her mid-30s.

don't you worry Evans is on a decent wedge up there. They paid Man City something like 3m for him so he didn't come cheap. 10k pw on a three year deal, you do the math.

There is no way on earth that she is wealthier than Wayne... And what do you mean about his earnings potential? He will be the new face of Just for Men when Figo throws in the towel.

Would she be? I know she does well but not on his current weekly wage surely?
