If he was Jaimé Va De and played for some foreign outfit, he'd be spoken of in terms of adoration and awe .. good old ENGLISH Jamie Vardy .. he's done what umpteen foreigners from Cantona to Henry, from Aguero to Gullit have not done.. scored for ELEVEN consecutive games .. absolute proof that there are terrific ENGLISH players in the lower and semi pro leagues who deserve a chance .. lazy managers and club owners would rather listen to the sales pitch and watch the doctored video supplied by the (often) dodgy agent of some (to paraphrase Alan Sugar) Carlos Kickaball be he from Argentina, Angola or Afghanistan rather than Andover, Aylesbury or Aldgate..
WELL DONE VARDY .. but Roy still won't make you an England first choice, Leicester is too small a club
Vardy is two players in one. The out and out goalscorer with blistering pace and the forward who allows his team to defend from the front and prevents opposition from playing from the back. But the biggest positive is his desire to make the most of what he has and when he isn't finding the net he will still work tirelessly for the team's cause.
On the 7th November 2012 a certain player was scoring the winner against Barcelona. In the same week another forward was in the middle of a 20 match run for Leicester in which time he had found the net just once.
I'm absolutely sure the first player could become an International (albeit for a somewhat barren Scotland). But only if he really really wants it and is prepared to listen to the right manager in the way that the latter was happy to learn from Nigel Pearson.
For Stuart Fleetwood or Chris Dixson, read James Vardy. Good at Conference level but the step up to the Championship is a big one for a striker. £1m is a lot of money so time will tell if this is a success or not.
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but do you think Leicester got value for money?

I think the answer to that, 9 years on, is obvious. But how many others have made that leap from non-league to league winner in that time?
And yeah, I still think £1m for a 25 year old non-league player is crazy money. Maybe I wouldn't if we were throwing big money around on squad players and taking gambles on kids so fully accept my value for money meter may need a reset.

probably the best value for money signing in premier league history. Struggling to think of anyone else who comes close.

Eric Cantona. £1.2M Peter Schmeichel. £505k
I suppose you have to consider the value of £1 at the time United signed those two.
In today's money, Vardy cost £1,152,003.49 (If he was £1m) Cantona £2,163,565.04 (If he was £1.2m) Schmeichel £969,602.94 (If he was £505k)
Then you have to consider the clubs available funds on signing which Utd would have had more funds in 1991/92 than Leicester had in 2012.

Absolutely. Still banging value for money considering their influence, though.

To put it into context, the summer that Vardy signed for Leicester...
Arsenal signed Giroud and Podolski for £23m Liverpool purchased Borini for £10.5m Man City spent £38m on Rodwell | Nastasic | Javi Garcia Man Utd also spent £24m on van Persie, they even spent £6m on Nick Powell from Crewe who were League Two

Watched the United Way documentary and the Cantona deal was mentioned. Man Utd actually paid £1m for Cantona, but Leeds wanted it reported as £1.2m to save a little face with their supporters. Cant even believe it was WIOTOS

Would be great to know how much Cantona and Schmeichel would go for in the modern day
I know Peter came from Denmark so his valuation would still be pretty low but would surely be one of the most expensive Goalkeepers in the world if someone were to try and pry him away from Man Utd.

I guess back then there were much less foreigners coming to the Prem. Scouting abroad was only really possible for the bigger clubs and much less video footage/data to analyse. Now it's much easier spot a talent, hence why the bigger clubs indeed are hoovering up talent, whether that's in our lower league or abroad.
Brondby weren't a bad side when United signed Schmeichel, and he was already a Danish international, Utd just got a good deal and he obviously improved too. I don't think Leicester got a bad deal with Schmeichel Jnr either, he's not done badly there!

Leicester have done really well out of Kasper, one of my favourite players out there
He had a bit of a stop / start time in the Football League almost at the beginning of his career so he's done well extremely well in that regard... Although was equally unlucky that he ended up competing with Joe Hart for the No.1 jersey @ Man City, especially when you consider that Kasper is now in a better position.

In most cases it’s crazy money but Vardy is an example why each player needs to be judged individually. He had the pace and enough in the rest of his game to make the step up.
Meanwhile we spent a similar amount on McLeod who gave impression we didn’t properly scout him.

All the more incredible that 1) its not a glamour club and 2) He's English
Well done
Bottles of vodka, lines of Charlie!
... fantasic achievement, still ongoing of course!

Sad thing is that I'm not sure Watt does.
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has become co-owner of American football club Rochester Rhinos.
Former England international Vardy has bought a minority stake in the New York state-based side but has no plans to retire from playing.
