If it weren't for the situations at Norwich and Swansea I was seriously tempted to have a punt on Newcastle to get relegated next year, and may still do.
I don't think the bloke has had two good seasons in a row other than at Reading and think this is largely due to his bizarre transfer dealings and constant chopping and changing disrupting the team. Let's not forget he only came to us because a large proportion of the North Stand called for him to be given the job.

(I know the club shouldn't get involved in player apperance issues, but I felt it was spiteful of him)

When i met him I found him an odious, arrogant individual, and in managerial terms, a huge disappointment.
He was by no means the only reason we have struggled so badly in the years that followed (i'm not suggesting that), but he played a huge part of it.
Season 1 - took over in December in 19th, finished 19th - relegated Season 2 - 2nd highest budget in Championship - finished 11th Season 3 - 8 defeats on the trot and in relegation zone by November - sacked
Yes he had better players sold and moved on, the same that every team fallen out the premiership has to deal with. But Pardew was given huge resources to re-start and reshape a squad, he was given nearly £15m in transfer fees alone, not counting wages, yet couldn't even get a top 10 finish.
In my opinion he thought from Day 1 he was better than us and everything he touched turned to gold. He was going to build in the Champ some form of mini-Arsenal, with Moo2 and Christensen and a load of other bob that wasn't right. The squads he had neither played good attacking football, or held much in way of fight. We seemed to get done on both fronts.
Then there was the farce of bringing in Scott Sinclair and Lee Cook on loan at the same time, and not playing either of them and sticking with Jerome Thomas. The package for Varney, McLeod and Gray cost +£11m including wages, all down the drain. He was given everything he wanted, from players to feng suing the training ground, yet kept sending us further lower. His pay-off crippled the club so bad they couldn't even afford to bring in a new manager, which is why Parky got it full time.
He was a disaster for us both in footballing terms, and financial, and along with that, i can't stand the bloke.
Having also met him AFKA is spot on about his personality.
Like Queensland I think he just lost interest in players he bought and then lost interest in us as a club.
That's not to say he has no talent as a manager because he clearly has. The Club weren't in a good place when he came but he only made it worse, a lot worse.
I said it as the time so I'll say it again, again. He wasn't as good as people thought he was when he came and he wasn't as bad as people though he was when he left.
Bent sold from under him? Do you think we had a chance of keeping him?!
Also, I think he gave his blessing to the Reid transfer from memory.
Bent wasn't the only one. I've always doubted he gave his "blessings" for the Reid transfer, but there has always been people saying he did... I've never heard anything where Pardew said anything like that... What I do remember is Murray saying it was "good business".
He gave more than his blessing. He actively pushed for it. And I heard that direct from the man himself.
Anyway, someone tell Steve Kavanagh to stop sitting on all those player contracts he signed weeks ago. Here we are arguing about fecking Alan Pardew when we should be moaning about new signings : - )
Neither am I saying he didn't play a part, but I'm of the firm belief that if the foundations are solid at the top, everybody below works a lot better, including the manages, and that wasn't the case with us at the time... We were a club in decline, with a chairman who seemed to look, to me anyway, like a gambler who had lost his pot, and was trying to get it back.
Totally different events back then, to what we've already seen & had under our new regime, where we have so far been a club that has built up a good squad, without having to dismantle one first.
He's a gambler, look at the players he signed at West Ham, Reading, Southampton, then at Newcastle, some times he got lucky. He gambled on Varney, McLump and Grey with money we didn't have and it didn't work. For him he just shrugs his shoulders and moves on, for us we suffer and almost go out of business.
If the Geordies get found out next season, as well they might, he will have plenty of excuses ready. But for now I am inclined to think he has improved his skills as a manager since he left us. I had a pony on Newcastle to go down last season and the country gentleman that is AP let me down again. So it will indeed be interesting to see how he fares. God help us if he gets lined Up to replace Hodgson after we crash out of the Euros!

Good friends with a West Ham fan who met him in a bar/club a couple of years ago. Apparently completely backs up what AFKA and Henry say about the man.
