Probably need to make an "old TV series" thread as I'm so behind, but just started watching Whitechapel. So far so good, love Steve pemberton
Good first series, bizarre second series!

Think I gave up after that!

Have you seen Happy Valley?  He's good in that too (and it's great generally).
  • Catching up on Wolf Hall, didn't watch it at the time.

    Mark Rylance is so good.

Until I Kill You - 4 episodes on ITV, just finished with Anna Maxwell Martin.
True "story" and she's such a good actor.
    Worth watching.
She is very good…..but that accent was really annoying me.
We thought that about accent too, but saw some of the documentary on Thursday, and she really does talk like that
You’re right. I watched the documentary last night and the real woman’s accent annoyed me more than Anna Maxwell Martin’s did 😄.
    Where is the doc please?
it was on ITV the night after the final episode was shown - am sure will be on ITVx
Until I  Kill you - the real story.

    Good in Benidorm....as Mick Garvey.
  • Finished Industry last week, surprised to read it’s been commissioned for a 4th series.

Have loved this programme, no idea whether it helps having an understanding of financial markets, but been some brilliant character writing and some fantastic acting. Each series has managed to bring a bit of a different angle and really highlights on vulnerabilities

The Penguin……watched all 8 episodes, last one was yesterday.
Is it a worthy piece of work……I’m not too sure?
Had its moments but was a hard watch at times. He quite illogically manages to live, after what seemed like a zillion highly improbable OTT close calls. Maybe there’s plans for Penguin 2?
Unless you watched it, it’s a hard one hard to review but all in all I was left somewhat disappointed, despite an excellent performance from Colin Farrell.🤔
    A generous 6/10.

I have enjoyed every series even though I haven't worked in financial markets. The last series was a bit more difficult to follow without such knowledge, but still a good watch.

I watched the first one yesterday.
It was ok, a few lol bits. The make up is great but you can tell its him.
I’m not sure if it grabbed me enough to bother with another 7 episodes.

I bloomin loved it. Also loved the first 5 episodes of The Jackyll... Maybe I'm style over substance...hmmm.

    Recent watches enjoyed:
rivals - 9/10 absolutely loved it
    ludwig - 8.5/10 again brilliant
Penguin - felt like this could be iconic, still v good though and enjoyable 8/10
the cleaner - love Greg Davies some episodes a lot better than other but good for a 30min watch 8/10
jackal - love Eddie redmayne was good 7.5/10

Now to decide what to start may watch Yellowstone and not seen at all many other good recommendations
  • I liked The Penguin once it stopped taking itself too seriously.

Thought The Cleaner was absolute shite. Not funny at all and the acting was like GCSE drama.
  • Cobra Kai; Season 6... Part: 2 gets released on Friday with another five Episodes.
  • Just finished the 4th series of Slow Horses and unfortunately have to agree with many, its not great at all. It must have been rushed to write, film, edit and release in a short time.

The story was fairly predictable. Even worse is how bad MI5 and the Dogs have become, its almost inept to a 'Police Academy' level. The thing about the previous 3 series is that even though Slough House are shit, they pull something clever out the bag. This series all they needed to do was run away.

The mixed race girl with big hair has no storyline anymore, they may as well get rid. They also didn't utilise Jackson Lamb enough this series, he's the best character, keep him on screen.

Hopefully series 5 picks back up.

Agreed. Some of the language around the ESG conference was hilarious, and pretty on the nose for a lot of the city's actual views.

Not sure where it goes for season 4, and really hope the 2 new characters don't begin to play a major part as I found them really jarring at times.

The first 2 seasons i would spend as much time pausing it, googling whatever I didnt understand then re-watching most episodes. It was still so brilliantly filmed and acted magnificently with some great characters hidden away.

I used to think I'd hate it at a financial corporation, the false light, the office presence, the pressure to take unnecessary risks and most of all the worst of humanity to deal with 24/7 but after watching 3 seasons of industry I think we all have a bit of Robert and Rishi in us
  • Started watching Day of the Jackal today.

Only the first Episode, and a bit of the second, but liking it so far.

My parents have been watching Day of the Jackal and absolutely loving it! Mum read a translated edition of the original novel many years ago and was surprised to find that the series is actually a modern day adaptation. She says this is exactly the series she has been searching for after binging so many seasons of SEAL Team. They're also watching season 2 of "Lioness" and loving it too.

I've been watching documentaries about America's "Global War on Terror" on YouTube after having enjoyed the Netflix documentary series Medal of Honor. Medal of Honor is one of the absolute best series I've ever watched. I've come to realise some documentaries are even more gripping than fictional series and movies.

    Am up to episode 6.

    Silly far fetched fun.
  • Didn't realise that there was a second series of The Devil's Hour on Prime. Peter Capaldi is very good in the first.

One you have to watch properly as the plot twists and turns all over the place.

Basically it's about the other lives we potentially lead and what happens when they over lap.

Crime/Physiological drama. Maybe a bit too twisty turny in places but a good watch.

    Will start series 2 tonight.

  • Started the Penguin, I have found it rather dull though. Does it pick up after the first episode?

Started watching Silo, the first two episodes are great. The third episode is a drag, it was mostly people walking up and down stairs with a gripping, yet predictable broken generator scene that seems to drag.
I'll stick with it as I like the story arc and narrative.

I have Constellation, Foundation, Shining Girls and Severance lined up. I have a very low threshold for boredom and mentally find it very difficult to stick with something. I only finish, maybe 5% of shows I start.

Just binged the latest five Episodes... It was... Good.

But based on that last Episode (started off decent, before turning into the worst of the entire show)... Yeah its time to end things now... That was just too ridiculous - The CGI at the beginning was just... Urgh

Thought The Cleaner was very funny. Must have a different sense of humour.
