blimey. how about those that like the olympics get offline and watch it and those that don't like it go on the football rumours thread and stop talking about onions with caps that don't fit.
Go and order some tickets! ;o)
I;m only on here when i'm in another 15minute queue. Greco Roman Wrestling anyone??
Sorry Bournemouth, I never even saw your comment until after. Just read through about 30 posts in one go and was detecting a certain flavour developing. Genuinely not aimed at anyone in particular, but apologies if it came across that way. I seem to have touched a bit of a nerve with some tonight.
Fair enough Off It. I'm off for a beer and a calm down I think :-)

Haha, saw those earlier and for a moment genuinely considered it !

Go for a paddle along the front. If I lived down that way I would be down there every night I reckon.
Well done London,so far the Games have been a great success for you and the UK participants.
However there is the rest of the country that hasn't benefited from the investment, there are the non Olympics sports that have had their grants cut or removed.
Yes we can all enjoy the TV spectacle for a few weeks but after that our hospitals will st
We have all paid for the Olympics in our taxes and in the way lottery money has been diverted into the Olympics away from other causes. Also 'elete' sports people who are not in the Olympics have had their funding withdrawn. I agree that Londoners have paid more, but then you have the legacy, we don't.
Where did Lancashire come in their Olympic 2016 bid ?
Who and what sports that are elite have had their funding withdrawn ? Examples please.
I only know of one, as I have only met one sports person, and that is one GB's foremost indoor bowls players. Now that might be a minority sport to you but then skeet shooting is a minority sport to me.
The shooters had funding withdrawn after Beijing. The bloke who won the Gold is funded by a friend.
The organisers made sure that they warned people off of coming into London during the games, rightly fearing a meltdown during the Olympic period and people have taken heed and stayed out of London.
From talking to my UK friends I would say that about 80% of them have taken leave and have either got out of London or are staying home and not working.
That has meant that the travel to and from London-Stratford has been manageable but, on the flip side has resulted in far less people out and about in Central London - that's unavoidable.
There probably has not been the economic flow on for central London retailers that they hoped for but if you're honest would you really want to schlepp all the way back from Stratford or from North Greenwich to go to the West End?
The events run pretty much from 0900-2100 so there is not time for people to do that anyway, maybe there will be more tourists post Games?
However, people who are here for the Olympics are probably here for the sport not to spend fortunes at the shops and for the shows, they are a totally different market.
Bottom line is that its two weeks of inconvenience for people to put up with but in return the country gets to stage the greatest show on earth.
The lack of visitors to central London during the weeks of the games was expected. It has happened in other OIympic and also Commonwealth games venues. I expect the pay off to be the increase in visitors who will come to London as a result of the games.
I went to the Mexico - Senegal quarter final match on Saturday. There were 81,000 people there for a match in London involving teams from Central America and Africa! Fantastic atmosphere and quite an exciting match in the end. Victoria Station was heaving but there were plenty of people on hand there and at Wembley to point people in the right direction, all with a smile on their face. I am so impressed with the organisation of these games. What a huge job it must have been to get everything running as smoothly as it has, to make sure all the building work was completed on time and to budget (yes, I know about the revisions), that the facilities for competitors, spectators, coaches/trainers, media etc and all the transport links are just right; to recruit and train the hundreds of people who are helping, to make sure that they are in the right place at the right time and that they know what to do; the marketing and ticketing and all the political and diplomatic negotiating. I take my hat off to Seb Coe. I think he has done an absolutely magnificent job. The games look fantastic, London looks fantastic and in my opinion these Olympic Games have been worth every penny spent on them.
I am working at one of the local venues managing a team of 15 volunteers. I am constantly impressed with the enthusiasm of all 15. People have come at their own expense from all over Britain to be a part of these Games, ask those guys and girls if they think it is a waste of time. Some have not traveled as far and 3 of us are Charlton season ticket holders. Not trying to change anybodies mind just wanted to say my bit

Was in the park today and the buzz from last night was still there I think it will be ingrained on the whole place forever
What about the hockey 3 nil down back to 3 all against the Aussies
Now that should make you live the Olympics
