expect we will now be rated number 1 in the world

Won't rise that much as the points awarded for a friendly game are less than for competitive fixtures.

Just switched on the last 15 minutes. Saints preserve us from the awful monotony of the people who think they can play brass instruments and relentlessly bash out awful dirges. If that went on at Charlton games I'd stop going!

This, I have just planned to watch the last 15 mins but that fucking aweful band, cringe worthy

Was half watching, a much better performance than at the Euros with a shift in system and much more composure on the ball

Lee Dixon was the biggest UK football transfer this summer (until RVP went to Man U)

More composure, yes, but it was played at the pace of a training game - doubtful we would play with that composure if we were in a competitive match.

Lord Romford - Edgar Kail, the Dulwich Hamlet keeper in the 1930's, was an amatuer, who played for the full England team. I don't think he ever played in the League- might be wrong.

I stand corrected. A friend told me it was Hargreaves, so I thought I'd share it here.
Always good to learn something - cheers!

I have a lot of fun on a matchday thanks but to do so I do not need a prick playing a trumpet very badly within earshot of me

If you paid to listen to the London Symphony Orchestra would you want to be forced to watch 90 minutes of keepy-uppy throughout the performance? I think not.

Actually enjoyed watching this last night,

Thought Walker, Jagielka (sp), Ruddy and to some extent Cleverly played v well. Johnson could have done more tbh, would have expected him to be a little better as have previously rated him although I guess he hasn't had much football.

Gf asked about 5 mins in 'Who's Butt Land ... hahaha', shes 29.

Ormy, , we won. You don't know we wouldn't play with that composure in a competitive match, try and be positive after a win, eh?

Seriously - What a complete and utter waste of time. I'm so not interested in this that I'm going to watch the launch of Celebrity big brother instead.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...
  • Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thought it played at a decent pace and the way some of the challenges were (particularly the Italian 13) I'd say it was far from a training match.

I shall try old chap, problem is that at the next major tournament you just know that the same tired old shite of Terry, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney will be rolled out once again and failure will surely follow.

I would love us to have a real actual go with the younger blokes like Johnson but the big names will always dominate.

Red Murph, VG and all the others who use the words pointless and meaningless. Can you explain to me what a meaningful friendly would be, if a game against a team in the top 10 who reached the final of Euro 2012 is not?

pointless as is in it was pretty much a backup 11. If your going to have a friendly, then mix and match between the 1st 11...to see how the fringe players will get on.
Plus the fact the season hasnt even started, its impossible to tell what players are in form.
I understand we have a qualifying game coming up, but its against Moldova. Hodgson will know the 13/14 that will be involved, whatever happened against Italy.

    @ValleyGary

A considerable number of the 1st 11 withdrew. There are three games before the first qualifier, no time for a friendly between.

Why can't we see how the fringe players get on when they play with each other, why do they have to play with the regulars?

Isn't a friendly where you can see how players cope with international football, and adapt to a system that might be different from the one they play at their clubs, more useful than no friendly at all?

As you say, the first game is "only" Moldova, could be that Roy will give some of the younger players a chance, and he wont be sending them in "cold". My guess is as good as yours?

  • I will give one positive, I bloody loved the new white and red kit.

They should be our colours, I have never liked the blue shorts.
