So Danny Baker invented the Football Phone-In? Lol! I've heard it all now.

Danny Baker invented 606. Before him there was no 606, and frankly, after him there has been no 606. From the moment Mellor took over, the format had to change because no-one (and I really mean no-one) can do what Baker can do. Nothing that has ever come since has been true to the original format, nothing that has come since has been anything other than dull. The only similarities between Baker's original and the shyte that is broadcast now are the title and the fact that it's a phone in show.
    ....is the correct answer.

Baker - despite being a bloody spanner - is a genius broadcaster who also understands what it means to be a football supporter in ways that the Tarquins and Alistair's at the BBC never, ever will.

On Baker's 606 he NEVER discussed what went on with matches or players, it was all about the things which actually make up the entire experience of following your team all around the country.

Having David Mellor replace Danny Baker on 606 was crazy, probably the worst broadcasting appointment ever. Of all people, David Mellor!

There are two types of football fans, those who love their club, know everything about it's history, go to lots of games, plan their lives around their teams fixture lists but actullay know nothing about football. You know the type, I love hearing their post match comments when they try to get technical and use phrases that they have obviously picked up from the media. Then there are those who actually like football.
The former are the type catered for by the likes of Danny Baker as he also knows nothing about football and the latter don't really have anyone looking after them.

Chirpy the troll is back. We all knew you couldn't stay away for long despite slagging off this site and football forums in general.

Gary Neville - knows his onions

He does but he couldn't host. Very rarely do ex-players make good hosts or commentators. They are best for expert analysis.

The BBC have some good people who could host 606, some who already have or do. Phil Williams, Darren Fletcher, Dan Walker, Mark Chapman etc. The best was Ray Stubbs who did Wednesday nights a few years ago. Sadly they let him go and he's now wasted at ESPN

Is this why Robbie T has been banned?
