Never say no, but in this case I could make an exception?
Are there things that could be improved at the Valley, no doubt?
To me, and it is an emotional, irrational involvement, and the pursuit of a golden football oasis wether it be at the Greenwich peninsular, or some other gold plated mecca
may be for others, but alas not for me?. Even if it was free, and we played at Wembley?.
Which of course Arsenal did a few years ago, and I still turned down the offer.
If someone wants to pour in billions, and 'rebrand us', and play in light red, well I would discuss it?.
How many billions we talking about?

I think any owner that wanted to relocate would need to address obvious issues in relation to Charlton if they wanted to move, similar in some ways to Highbury, but also with our recent history taking into account. Who knows tho with some innovation, new ideas, and hard cash and council cooperation the Valley site could be a more viable ground, perhaps if there were more of a community involvement.

The two scenarios I see that would precipitate an attempted move by an owner

*that we are 'gifted' a ground perhaps as a share with another club and or other functions nearby or

*Some stupidly rich owners want to move us, in the latter case I can only see that if it were due to the council not allowing development to the required numbers.

I would hope that the Supporters' Trust would campaign vigorously to stay at The Valley.

It's arguably the main reason I joined!

I would hope a supporters' Trust would represent the fans views on this otherwise it wouldn't be fit for purpose

Its an interesting topic (the thread title)

If a trust could help fill the Valley in the championship, that would be a very positive way of channelling our feelings about it.

To do that, and be listened to, we need to reach 800-1000 members at some stage.

So the message is if want as fans to be able to influence this kind of thing we need to get out there and recruit for the Trust.

CAS Trust is for all Addicks us not just a group of activists - that is the only way it can have a chance of succeeding.

I am rather selfish and self centred. It's all about what I want and what matters to me. With this in mind I can completely understand the re-branding of the Cardiff Blues to the Cardiff Dragons. It is helpful for the markets in Asia, but also Red is the Welsh national colour and they do have a dragon on their national flag. I can see why the new owner would want to portray the club (in the event of promotion to the Premier League) as being representatives of both the Welsh people (somewhat upstaged by the success of Swansea) and the Chinese people.

However I fully understand why the Cardiff fans wouldn't like it, and I might feel the same if it were Charlton.

Where my selfishness is relevant is that I wouldn't have a problem trading many things about our 'culture and heritage' in exchange for a little more success on the field. Would I want to be the Charlton Dragons - not really. Would I be willing to accept that we were referred to that in China for an extended stay in the top flight? Yes I would! Would I be willing to trade the colour of our home shirt for success? No I wouldn't! Would I stop going if we changed our shirt a little and it was not all red? Probably not. Would I buy a replica shirt if we has a shirt that was not dominated by red? No I wouldn't! However the new owners would be clever enough, I'm sure, to make our away shirt red, which would, probably, be an acceptable purchase for me.

The Valley has been discussed elsewhere, and to death. I can see the, potential, benefits of moving but I like The Valley and as I get older the memories will become more important to me. When (assuming he goes first, of course) my Dad dies I think I will feel am even stronger emotional tie to the seats that we sit in now and might find leaving all those memories behind a little tough to accept.

Ultimately, however, the club is a business and an asset that someone can come along and buy and do what ever they choose with it. The Trust (like Portsmouth's) can look to get involved but with football clubs, these days, the sums of money are so large that a group of fans are going to struggle to finance what a rich owner could. I'm sure that if the Trust were willing to buy the club for the reported £35m that they want to sell it for, and guarantee the loans that the club has, and guarantee the running shortfall for a couple of seasons we would all like that but a rough calculation suggests that this option could require substantially more than £50m, and I doubt the trust has £50k let alone £50m. So we are going to have to accept that the owners will do things their way and we have to hope that their goals are aligned with ours.

Not sure that anyone actually mentioned a trust owning a club outright, even Pompey are at the first stages and would more than likely if a success expand to a consortium

Also I take your point but just to clarify, not that long ago the club was worth £0 (because that is what someone was willing to pay) and with less debt, albeit in a different division
Sorry Razil I might have jumped the gun a little. I was working on the basis that the only entity we would have to stand against unpopular changes would be the Trust and it would not be well heeled enough to fund the purchase. If Jimenez receives an offer for the club from someone that is going to change our team colours, move us away from the Valley and stop all the previous community work there would be little we could do about it.

I'm sure that Prague Addick and Airman Brown would have a view on this, particularly based on what they achieved, with others, back in the 80s and 90s but I think the sums of money are so much higher these days that the wants and desires of fans are just not as significant as they used to be, in my view.

Everyone should play in red. Perhaps we should too. Strangely one of tbe best teams I saw if not the best played in (mostly) err white. So thats it; it ain't the players or the manager it is the colour of the shirt. Jiminez ! Sought this out.

I wouldn't have any problem at all if we moved to a new stadium as long as we aren't forced out of The Valley and we moved through our own choice and the new stadium was an improvement to The Valley. I'd prefer us to play in red but once again, if it meant success then I'd accept a colour change. What I'm saying is success is more important than tradition I suppose!
