It would be a nightmare of logistics to give an away team more tickets at such short notice, though there is space at the south end of the Upper West, where a few lonely souls reside...

I stare up there and a song springs to mind...
All the lonely people Where do they all come from ? All the lonely people Where do they all belong ?
Yeah I think the club should give them as many as they want and also free up a protected area for them to leave their Christmas shopping safely and securely
Brighton have always taken good numbers, looks like they sold out at Wolves last week
no surprise as wolves is probably really easy for them to get to and what with the great shopping up there too. and apart from palace and millwall, we are their next closest team.
Good call from that bloke who decided to charge £30 for this game then. Who was it again . . . .?
Very unlikely they will get more seats, as it would involve moving season-ticket holders and we are also expecting a large number of group bookings who are likely to be in that area.
I sent out a flyer promoting this match as a Christmas treat for schools and junior football groups.
Whenever the issue of extra away tickets has come up before, the club has always expressed reluctance at forcing season ticket holders to move, and has only done so for cup games when there's an obligation to provide a certain percentage. Will be interesting to see if the club retains this stance as I presume it will be a different person taking the decision this time.

Only if there has been a change of personnel at the police . . . seriously, Brighton are no problem, but logistically it creates so many practical issues behind the east stand and ramps up stewarding costs to the extent it's unlikely to get that far. Plus you upset your own regular fans.
We looked long and hard at it when Norwich came for their relegation game in 2009, but not moving our own fans was the clinching issue and bear in mind that on that occasion it was a meaningless game for us as we were already relegated.

Understand that it has to get police approval, but the impression I've got on previous occassions is that it wouldn't have got as far as consulting the police because the club didn't want to do it anyway.

Bit of both, really, in that we don't bother to take things to the police that we know they are unlikely to agree.
Good call to charge more! The guy who thought it up should get Xmas bonus or % of sales as its made an extra 15000k Oh Yeh he did Some people have No idea ?
Incidentally, the "extra seats" may just be the difference between 3,000 and 3,400. We tend not to send the restricted views and a few others initially. They will get them if so.
If an issue is moving the season ticket holders, then from next year don't make any season tickets available in the 2 end blocks closet to the Jimmy Seed Stand of the East and West.
Then if this situation may arise it is easy to accomodate and extra revenue for the club.
Or move all the CAFC fans into the south stand and let Brighton have the rest?
Good idea, they can have the whole of the North, while the Covered End choir can use the Jimmy Seed. That way, we'll find out once and for all whether the accoutics in the JS are really that much better :-)

It's not good practice to force season-ticket holders to move. That's one reason we would never shut the upper west to save money - you'd end up worse off because some season-ticket holders wouldn't renew elsewhere.
In this case, you'd be doing it to accommodate an unusual scenario, which generally the police won't allow, plus don't forget that because of the safety regulations (maximum 14 seats to the end of a row) and toilets/refreshments you also lose seats to segregation.
An away section of 3,400 seats is quite generous in this division and in the Premiership, should we return there, we need the extra seats ourselves.
The people in there won't mind moving as they are happy to move ppl in the East and West to accomodate away fans so why not move themselves. Plenty of room in the west upper so all the singers can move there.
so if there's no chance of them getting any extra seats presume there will be a fair few Seagulls in the home ends which 'could' cause a few problems, depending which parts of the ground they end up in
if it's the Southern end of the East/West don't imagine there would be too much fuss but North-West or North Lower and there could be issue
are seats on general sale to anybody for this one?

Thats gonna be Red Division territory surely.....
Airman - what would be the likely reaction of club/police/stewards if the 'Red Division'/anyone had flares/smoke bombs at home games - would it be ejection from ground?
The council/police aren't going to allow the club to tolerate flares or smoke bombs, even if it was so inclined. You'll end up with more searches coming in and a slippery slope to ejections and bans.
Things seemed very relaxed/casual/shambolic regarding away fans when we played at Upton Park. 2 occasions spring to mind 1) When we played Leicester at the end of 1991/92, they brought too many to fit in the South Bank, so a group were walked across the pitch to the Chicken run side (which wans't being used) 2) Our last 'home' game vs Newcastle, where I was sitting in the Upper West, surrounded by loads of Newcastle supporters, with no segregation at all!
Well the season ticket holder next to @twiggyaddick hasn't sat in his seat for the last two years, so happy for all the Brighton ticketless fans to be put there :-)

It's been called the Jimmy Seed stand since before you were born
