Wilko's benefit gig for Addenbrookes tonight was incredible. He looked so happy, played better than at any time in the last 5 years and all his medical staff were there. Chatted to the two surgeons who saved him. Not sure they quite expected the heart lifting results of their hours of work and post op care. Has about 2 years of gigs booked.
Slightly off topic but I watched the film last night about Glen Campbell & his battle with Alzheimer's - very bittersweet, some funny moments & lots of sad ones. I have to admit my lifelong love affair with music started as a small boy listening to my dad's Glen Campbell records.
Brilliant, brilliant documentary. If you like Wilko, if you want to see how someone deals with their potential demise, or if you are just interested in people with exceptional character, this is for you, even if you know nothing about him. I love that he was playing chess with the Grim Reaper. More than that I wont say. Class doco by the Beeb.
Dr Feelgood were the first band I got into as a kid and they were superb live. Wilko has a magnetic stage presence and has certainly lived life to the full.
Seeing old footage of Feelgood really takes me back to the 70s.

Wilko was hugely affected during Lee's funeral service, which I didnt know before.
By Zoe Howe, wife of Dylan who has been Wilko's drummer for some time.
And a Blockhead before that.
And son of Steve Howe, the 'Yes' icon.
