decent post Mick Foley think its about time we were more positive about things .With a bit more luck yestarday we could have been out of sight. we have enough decent players to be at least top half . Dont think weve looked out of place against any of the so called better sides. If we could have picked up more points at home we would be in play off spot as away form is decent.
Disagree with most here. Thought Yann didn't cover enough ground and was more petulant than i've noticed before. Fuller provided the excitement today. Stephens got stuck in and made plenty of good passes and though Yann got more involved as time went on I thought he was a fair way away from his best.
Yann had a good game in a rare 4-4-2 outing with Fuller. I thought they both linked well considering how little match time they have had together in that system. It was great to see them receive the ball to feet so often too.
Such a shame CP, and many of us, still talk about 'consolidation', as if avoidance of relegation was a fair objective for the season.
I think wrongly aligned expectations are at the root of so many problems in football, particularly this short termism that plagues the game.
Norwich and Southampton were historical exceptions. Brighton stormed league one but are still an upper-mid table side. We have a lot going for us, of course, but the reality is that we're potless and have added very little to our squad since last year. To expect more than consolidation is entirely unrealistic.
So no problem with talking our club up, but for me that means recognising just what an outstanding job Powell is doing with no money and up against considerably more established sides at this level, and speaking it out loud, rather than bemoaning the inevitable inconsistency that comes with having a decent first XI but few of genuine quality and little behind them in the reserves.
We didn't lose yesterday, we're still very much mid-table and we are more than capable of getting results at Hull and Leicester. And if we don't, I trust we take our opponents into context, especially how much money they have compared to us.
The success of the Curbs era was hard won and built slowly on solid foundations. I would much rather see slower steady progress than a splurge of funds we dont have in a desperate bid for promotion. We did that too, and look where it got us...
yann was everywhere yesterday - one occasion in particular sticks in the mind, when he legged it back from up front to put in a ridiculous sliding challenge and cleanly won the ball. who says footballers don't care? he was clearly devastated, having put in so much effort and commitment. as long as we have players like him around, we'll be fine
kermorgant is a hero but his pairing with Fuller isn't ideal - the quicker Haynes gets back the better - if Haynes had played yesterday, we'd have won that by 3 or 4. Fuller is a great player as well but its him or Kermo for me, not both - no pace. One or other should start and the other come on for at least half hour.
I thought in stages they were too similar but fuller offers something we have very rarely had at charlton a player with undoubted ability and flair and a knack of close control and fear striking into defenders for 30 mins i thought we were excelent upfront
I would have Haynes playing somewhere on the pitch if fit but I don't agree that Yann and Fuller can't work together. They were arguably our two best players yesterday which must tell you something worked.
Fuller isn't blisteringly quick, though he doesn't really seem as though he needs to be. He can beat players just as well as any 'pacey' striker can with his ball control. The way he manages to work his way through players without losing it baffles me sometimes.
Probably one of his best performances in a Charlton shirt. He had every right to be furious.
I thought him and Fuller partnering up wouldn't work, I couldn't have been more wrong, they both had fantastic games, for me Fuller gets a lot more praise because he runs at and round players, but quite often I think he is a tad too selfish. Yann has a lot more awareness of players around him, his enthusiasm combined with his talent make him an absolute hero in my eyes.
Fuller and Kermorgant can work as a partnership BUT you'd need to make sure you have midfielders making plenty of runs in behind them as neither has the pace to get in behind consistently.
I am not really sure we have too many midfielders capable of making those 'Roy Keane/David Platt' like runs at the moment, Pritchard could do it but his finishing is poor.
They all have passion. He shows it in a way that is very visible....doesn't mean the other players don't share the same disappointment.
Sorry that's just not the case. Usual couple mooched off to the tunnel with little hesitation, one of whom still gets in the team despite still not doing his fair share unless we're leading comfortably - which we haven't done often since April

We have a mind reader, why is standing around a sign of being gutted more then, say being desperate to get off the pitch out of frustration?
This feels like the old BWP is "Lazy" debate because of his style of play.
If anyone wants to reignite that debate then all you had to do was watch BWP's five minute cameo on Saturday during which he strolled around without a care in the world (when we need our strikers to be chasing every ball down and doing their best to hold it up). Yann on the other hand, did twice as much running in that period and had already been playing for 90 minutes. Says it all in my book.

Not there myself but it does say it all, it says that 2 players have different playing styles, one of which certain fans prefer, shock horror!
I love Yann by the way, probably my favourite Charlton player in years.

During extra time in that situation playing styles shouldn't come into it- it should just be a case of doing your upmost hustling and fighting to keep the ball for the team. In that regard Yann most certainly demonstrated that he gives more of a sh*t about us than BWP which was what was being inferred earlier.

Powell out, etc.
