The scum will have some very unsavoury characters knocking about today. It's a small detour in an attempt to keep us kept away from a few animals, an unprecedented move by the club. Just deal with it!
A lot of effort has gone into this thread. Lets hope as much effort is put into getting behind the boys this afternoon.
Over 400 posts about a trifling inconvenience for one game and one game only.
So you're going to have to make a minor detour or, God forbid, you might miss your train and have to wait all of twenty minutes for another. So what? Some of you need to stop your snivelling and get on with it, Christ only knows what you people would be like if some true calamity befell you.
No wonder we're known as a bunch of 'anoraks '. Pull yourselves together FFS.
Is attempting to disperse up to 20,000 people along Charlton Lane a good idea ? It does appear to create a whole new set of different risks in terms of overall safety for the majority inside and outside of the ground then it resolves. The precedent that it sets for other similar games is not good either.
When the dust settles it will be good to see the minutes of the police / club planning meeting that Prague Addick requested. The plan may have been forced on the club.
It is not just about inconvenience it is about proper organisation and managing risks in a proper and sensible way, and not just seeing the whole thing as a public order potential apocylapse. It is a game of football, which is supposed to be entertainment and enjoyable. I think that the club are missing out on an opportunity to promote the club after the game, which would also help to relieve pressure.
What could be a negative experience could easily be turned into a positive experience for those who usually exit by the station, or park on that side, or who want to take it easy and wait in the ground for a few minutes. This would help reduce the flows onto Charlton Lane, and reduce the risk of overcrowding. Keeping bars open in the North, East and West open would reduce the risk of overcrowding in the North stand.
The club could put on some entertainment on the big screen and concourse TVs. A kids 5 side match or the players to sign some programs or post match training or something. It would then be a memorable experience for the many friends, family and guests at the game and maybe won over some new supporters. The Valley is an impressive sight, particularly when full and the atmosphere should be excellent. On top of the fact that Charlton are due a good result and win when you don't expect it.
We will see what happens. Looking forward to the day and the game.
What if the Police hadn't put these arrangements into place and some innocent mums, dads or kids got seriously injured, what would be the response to that? Whichever way you look at it the authorities can't win. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. It's happening, deal with it.

If you open the gates most people will leave, regardless of what bars you open, what you put on the screen or what is happening on the pitch.
I'd guess about 14,000 Charlton fans in total (notwithstanding the official attendance) maximum 2-3,000 staying behind and the rest dispersing three ways at the end of Harvey Gardens. All three routes are heavily parked and relatively narrow. First question would be what arrangements have been made to suspend the parking and second what arrangements to manage the level crossing.

Using that logic we should make this a behind closed doors game, lest any "innocent mums, dads or kids got seriously injured".
The authorities are only damned if they do it badly, which they have this time.
We can thank the handful that were involved in wanton vandalism at the Toolbox and Sellout. All of this was highly predictable after that (including a ten page thread of hand-wringing on here). Vandalism is not heroic it is moronic and yes it has consequences. Now get your body armour on and get off to the game.

Even if at toolbox and selhurst we sat on our hands for 90 minutes and shuffled our way out, this return leg would see a huge police presence, it's Millwalls history, the rivalry etc. Not just because we lobbed a flare or two and a few seats a few month ago

if this is not the case why a 12 30 kick off pubs and roads closed can't remember this happened the last time we played them

if the away fans are kept back as you'd expect at any other club then how do these innocent families get injured? they'll be out of the area before millwall get out
Let you down Ransom walk and walk all the around into their lot who are going to the station, past the station, through Makro. All to the station? Bollocks.
Walked straight to the station after a 5 min wait. Police just standing around up there.
