That Anglia. I wonder if that was the original colour. I would imagine at that price it would have been restored totally to stock.
Yeah, it's a total rebuild I think. Although that was a standard Ford colour for the period. Thing is it's got a 1700cc Xflow engine, ventilated discs, etc, etc. I'm sure that makes it a better all round vehicle to drive but diminishes its actual value as a classic.
I didnt know you could bore a Xflow to 1700. Remember scouring the scrapyards in the 70's for pre Xflow 1500's with block number begining with 00...you could bore these out to 1664 and fit Powermax pistons a la Lotus.
maybe baby your talking my lingo I bet you know about 2000E gearboxes and what a type 49 bodyshell is.
Certain cars and makes of car are worth big money - Ford values seem to be going through the roof! In comparison, most Vauxhalls are worth "vauxhall". :-)
I have a 1966 Austin Healey 3000 Mk 3. 46k documented miles. Bought it from the original owner 7 years ago. All records including the original purchase receipt. This is one lovely motor.
Yep if I still had my mk1 mex and my mk2 rs now worth a fortune gave my mk1 to my dad when I got my mk2 .would like one now as a toy! But anything up to 30k now. Got cj3 as my toy now but as greenie mentioned few years back were worthless who would want an old jeep with no doors or roof and harsh ride and defantly no power steering.
One of these was my first motor in 1969. Six years old cost £50. I've just found this one on carandclassic.co.uk for £12,000. Is someone really going to pay that sort of money for it?
Would look good in yellow , with TIT written on the sides.
Car of my youth that maestro perry I loved it , wish I had known the Mexico would've been worth the dough they are now would've kept and invested in them much more fun than saving in a bank

Remember the 1500 boxes would match up to a V4 or V6 by simply swopping the bell housing for a 2000E. Problem with having a V6 in a Cortina or Corsair was body twist...that's where the type 49 came into it's own. However not as strong as my old Mk1 Cortina that I fitted with a cross chassis enabling me to make it into a Targa top.
I did notice when looking around that there are some fantastic classics out there and some that are just turning into a classic
Went for a spin in a 28 yr old bentley unbelievable the build quality for a motor that old and smooth as silk to drive yet the 15 to the gallon youd need to be a squillianaire to own it
The shag pile carpet was just like new and the car had 50k on the clock certified miles i spose it dont harm to dream
I bought a Bentley Mulsanne Turbo 1985, pretty damned immaculate, 90,000 miles and only 2000 miles travelled since 1998. I paid £6100 for it last year....I now have it in Oz where Fuel is a bit more affordable.....its a pleasure to drive and goes lke stink (in a straight line). Rare car....only 495 made worldwide.
For any car enthusiasts, the car in the background is a Vanden Plas Princess Limousine 7 seater......the one shown is the newest of five I own...yeah Im a just a little mad....
Did you know you can take a RR engine out of a Vanden Plas Westminster shape thingy and put it in a 70's MGB...mind you, trying to keep it cool with that tiny radiator is a bit of a nuisence.
Saw a Mk1 RS escort on Tuesday, roar away from Blackfen, looked great, and the sound was wonderful. It flashed past so quickly, White with blue decals. Never seen it around before, Wether it was original or a 1300 L rebuilt I have no idea, but looked a great car.
Ken A friend of mine who lived in 'the drive' in blendon used to have one in white with blue had it restored in about 95 was an orignal rs but I didn't like the big 4 chrome spots he put on the front ,made it look like a Mexico in my view but was like a rocket sounded awsome ,could be same car?? Maybee he's still got it? Remember he paid quite a lot for even back then before the restoration.
Tel that's the car I went out in except this one was a burgundy colour with cream leather and carpets
You lucky git
This one has powder blue leather with cream piping, Ive also got the original lambswool over carpets...its very smooth and easy to drive, but the downfall of the Mulsanne Turbo was fuel evaporation, which caused slow starting when the engine is hot (mine always starts but can sit there winding for 20-30 seconds before roaring into life).....something RR & Bentley never cured which lead to its downfall....The later Turbo R was fuel injected and was slightly better on a hot start. They also handled a lot better due to stiffer suspension albeit the ride suffered quite a bit...its a future classic in my opinion, especially due to the rarity...however the build quality on the 80's and 90's cars is a bit sus.....arches can be abysmal and sills around the jacking points are also affected by rust. I love driving mine, but sadly because it doesnt say Bentley anywhere on the car, nobody knows what it is in Oz and it doesnt get a second look, unlike the Princesses which always get commented on...everyone thinks they are either RR's or Bentley's
Saga great call I also had a consul capri a1963 1500 in goodwood green (reg No 258 guv)) had it for about 3 years before going down the normal Ford path--corsair gt capri gtxlr then Mk 3 cortinas great days but looking back I always seemed to be working on them.
Saga 's Capri was a lovely car...... anyway always liked fords, cheap parts, and easily modified. That one yesterday was a real headturner, not too over modified, just looked right I think the BDA is the one to go for...... //www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C296310 missed out on the mk 1 modified..... just a 1300 GT yellow Mk2 1600 sport\ghia\e models Mk3 1600i RS Black about 3 XR3is, one with a 'stagged head' Burton exhaust, Went for a Mk2 X pack RS2000 but Insurance put me off. Guy at Link House publishing had a 3 litre essex 'nitro' MK3..... who worked on car and car conversions. etc, etc
Thanks for the comments on the Consul Capri. A few details: colour is Midnight blue, with a light blue roof and those wheels are from a Lotus Cortina - wider than the originals. I bought it fully restored and stupidly sold it a few years later when a guy offered me good money for it at the Bromley Pageant of Motoring.

The colour question related to the number plate!
