Used to own one of these babys in the early 90's (Ford Classic Capri). Saved up for months to buy it of a mate. Only had it for about 6 month before some scallywag nicked it whilst I was serving overseas. Car locks were never Fords strong-point back then..........................
For any car enthusiasts, the car in the background is a Vanden Plas Pr-incesss Limousine 7 seater......the one shown is the newest of five I own...yeah Im
a just a little mad....
Tel I am glad you are flying the british flag is the princess the bigger brother of the Austin sheerline?. Although I am a Ford man the car I dream of owning would be A 1949--52 Austin Atlantic
Yes the Princess A135 superceded the A125 Sheerline...Sheerlines ran from 47 until 52, the Princess from 52 to 1968...all hand built at Vanden Plas factory in Kingsbury. My oldest Princess is a 54 Landaulette, the white one pictured with the Bentley is one of the last from 1968.
Plenty of Mk 2 Escorts, including RS2000's still available at a reasonable price in Australia....if anyone is interested in importing one, I'm happy to help....roll on, roll off ferries are under a grand, 20ft containers from around £1300
My first car I got after passing my test in 83 was a escort mk 1 gt. Got if if I remember right from kings highway garage for 995? Yep the bda 16v engines in the early rs 1600 and rare rs 1800 were awsome . The cars that came out of fords avo were just so advanced at that time . Would love an mk 1 or 2 now This thread has got me thinking............. I've got an old jeep I could swap?
I don't understand why the new car market haven't clocked on to the fact that part of the joy of owning a car was the fact you could modify / custom it the new cars although prob more reliable are just plastic and wires
My xr2 was always being tinkered with and things done to it what could you possibly do to a fiesta now ( Dave not the mag )
And the mark 1 and escorts you would see blokes all over the country with them up on jacks and underneath them , flaring arches and lowering them its just so mundane owning a new car

Some 'fine tuning' was regularly being carried out on the March family car:
It was (still is?) owned by a bloke called John Dodd who was an automatic gearbox specialist who used to have a garage near Orpington. He once worked on my old man's MkII Jag but mainly used to travel the world working on HM Govt.'s embassy cars. Anyway, aside from the Escort estate type rear end, at the front was a 27 litre V12 Merlin. I seem to remember you could get a recon Rolls Royce gearbox in the back! Ugly as hell and only did about 2mpg but the noise and the speed were awesome. It originally had a RR grill but I think RR made him take it off.

The storey going around in the 70's is that John Dodd was caught speeding in either France or Belgium they estimated his speed at approx 200mph as the radar gun went off the scale they did not issue a ticket but told him to fuck off out of their country and not come back!. Whether this is true or not I do not know it could have been a PA stunt for his business.
Just picked up my jag bloody hell I wish I had it from new the car is loaded with toys and such a smooth drive , can't believe how quiet it is on the mway
Just done Salisbury to Heathrow and then Heathrow to Enfield and the fuel needle hardly moved
Can not believe this car was made in 2004
It's like driving a brand new motor
Mrs said it is an old man car I said exactly the redundancy cheque needs to last buy a motor someone has loved and treasured and not ragged and it should last 5 yrs let alone 3
Don't think I have enjoyed the m3 and m25 as much as I just did

An added bonus is that it shares a lot of mechanical parts with the Ford mondeo so spares & service should be ok--happy motoring

The advantage of buying from Oz is I imagine they'd be pretty much rust free and they're right hookers.. I actually did this a few years ago from the States. Imported quite a few cars and made quite a bit of money. One example - bought a 1960 Mk II jag for $5200 and sold it in England for 18,000 quids. Used to import e-types, Healeys and old MGs. Good fun while it lasted but that market has pretty much dried up now.

Nice one Tango - did you see the pic of my one earlier in the thread? Obviously not as rare as we thought! :-)
