Become an england fans member and accumulate enough 'caps' which are priority points. You get one for a home and two for away games.
This campaign and the next count towards it. If you get enough caps you will be guarenteed tickets. But you do have to commit. England away games are brilliant but not practical or doable for some.
UEFA also sell tickets but this will be massively over subscribed and is just à lottery.
it depends on the size of the stadium and allocation.
70% of tickets go to the top cappers.
for example: if the allocation is 1000. Then 700 will go to the first 700 with the highest caps. The remaining 300 go into the à ballot for everyone else who applied.
I think its going to be 30 caps plus to Be certain of getting tickets to all the games.
cheers for the heads up mate appreciate it, i would love to follow england away just the money side is my downfall i find it dear enough following charlton most away games <- no spelling mistakes see
You'd have to go to pretty much every home and away qualifier in the 2014-16 cycle to be guaranteed a ticket. They'll all be coming out of the woodwork. You might as well join to get in the ballot and then just pick and choose what you want to do. 5 caps or 25 caps you'll be in the ballot and no better/worse off.
the only thing is i dont even know how much a van would be likely to cost anyone on here got any ideas? we are thinking about doing a few stencils down the sides of charlton badges.
errrr there are thousands and thousands of vans of all shapes, sizes and conditions on sale all over the place, adverts on the internet or cards in shop windows ... Transits or V Ws are best £ for £ value ... I would go for a Ford Transit with side windows, (transits keep on going and going and going) ... or if you can afford it, a purpose built camper van
Nah, VW Campers are the ones that keep going and going ! You dont see many 30/40 year old Transits around do you ?
true Mr P .. I was thinking more of price, older V Ws are hard to come by, newer 2nd hand ones are expensive .. I maintain that (say) a 10 year old transit van, rust free, would be the best v f m.
My neighbour has just paid £2,000 cash for a T reg V W van in VERY good nick. He plans to convert it into a camper, though he was saying how expensive it is nowadays to park up in a regular camping/caravan site
Will have a think about it nearer the time but it would have to be part of a broader trip.
Not bothered particularly about seeing England play ( unless Jack Wilshire, with help from one or two others, can somehow turn us around ). It would be great to see any of the South American teams.
I was just thinking about being based in Rio for a week of the group stages....if England are there great but no sweat if not...would just be incredible to be there I reckon.
Expecting costs to be crazy, hoping to rent a big apartment with a few others.
Probably the best and cheapest way of doing things was out there (2001) and found prices pretty reasonable...3* hotel was 20 quid a night, though I'm sure prices will be inflated for the WC.....go for it though, Rio is a great city, loved it in Ipenema.
Who cares if England get there or not, international tournaments are all about watching everybody and if your country is there and does well it's a bonus.
I am very much looking to go to the World Cup and even have money saved specifically for it, just need to find people who also want to go and have the money. Not looking to travel round Brazil, original plan was to stay where the final is - Rio? And just watch all the games played there and catch the others in bars, but may just go for the final week or 2 as long as I see the final.
Best place to watch the World Cup - either Spain or Thailand. You just know that if you go to Brazil you are going to get 1) Mugged or 2)ripped off or more likely both.

We (wife and I) caught a bus to see the Maracana stadium, and these guys basically got on the bus with us and tried to pick-pocket the misses whilst I was sorting the fares, she pushed the bloke away and he simply said sorry and he and his mates walked of briskly, strange they showed no aggression and were even apologetic. Did hear off a few nasty incidents on our trip to South America but in the 3 months we were down there had hardly any hassle at all.

For those only interested in tournaments, joining englandfans as a new member will be a waste of time for France, unless you want a place in the ballot which could well be unsuccessful. Rather than cap-chase in order to get Euros tickets it'd be cheaper and less hassle to buy off touts at the tournament. For Brazil every member, even with no caps, will get tickets for every England game, no problem, so well worth joining the club for that.
I was there for a few weeks in 2010. Brazil has come a long way and is not as dangerous as people make out, in fact Rio (along with Medellin) is the most friendly city I've visited. Just don't go on the beaches or too far away from tourist/bar areas at night.
As stated, it is expensive. It was largely London prices then, and will have gone up plus you have your World Cup inflation. A bottle of beer was about £2 then, draught is hard to find. Beware caipirinhas, they are absolutely lethal. The coffee is surprisingly crap as they like putting a load of cinammon in. Iced acai is good for hangovers.
The coach service is okay but I didn't do longer than 14 hours. That was about £60 on the night of Bailey's penalty. You can get 'full cama' though (at least that's the Spanish name) where you get a horizontally reclining seat, curtains and good standard food and drink will be handed out. Worth a go a few times, you won't want to leave. Rio's metro system is alright but Sao Paulo's was/is a mess. Allow plenty of time to get across the city. Skyscanner is your best friend for flights.
If you're staying southern and don't have match tickets then there's a really nice area between SP and RDJ, Ilha Grande and Paraty are 6/7 hours from either. They will be packed but it's what you'd consider the 'real' Brazil with beaches, forest and the occasional monkey.
If you have a group then it may be worth hiring a whole room in a hostel to cut costs. These are not as bad as you think (in fact many are like hotels) and a great way to meet other people, often with a caiprinha on arrival and happy hours in the evening.
Brazil is one of my favourite countries and Rio my absolute favourite city but I'd only recommend going if you're going the full hog. It won't be much fun having to skip meals or realising you can't afford to travel, then your hotel is fully booked. Otherwise get over there another time and catch a few domestic games (admittedly atmospheres are hit and miss), plus you'll be able to do stuff like Lapa street party on a Friday or the favela funk party in Rio.
Are any Lifers actually heading out to Brazil this summer?
I'm hoping to get out for the Italy and Uruguay games. I've booked internal flights up from São Paulo to Manaus and then back to Rio, but now waiting on tickets news in early Feb.
It should be a fantastic (but pricey!) trip - no huge expectations for England though! The 6hrs from São Paulo to Manaus via Brasilia and then same back to Rio is a bit of a killer!!
I'm massively struggling to find any available accommodation in Manaus though even just for the nights before and after the Italy game. Does anyone have any recommendations? Are others facing similar problems?!

@forzajuve_27 was looking for other people going on another thread.
I'm doing 3 weeks out there as my missus is from Rio. Basing myself in Rio and hoping Englandfans sort me out for the Uruguay and Costa Rica games. Alas as I booked my flights before the draw (I panicked when I saw the price go to double what I paid to go there in November so bit the bullet - they are now another 50% higher) I'm actually in the air for the first half of the Italy game - I must be the only Englishman annoyed it got moved forward 3 hours,
Anyway for those traveling, as mentioned above, the coaches are a good choice instead of flying if flying less than 2 hours, especially if taken at night and treated like a hotel. Logistics aren't Brazil's strong point but it really is an amazing place.
I'm going out there. Have managed to get two month sabbatical off work so am flying into Lima in May, travelling round there across to Manaus for the Italy game, then down to Rio and Brazil, ending up in Buenos Aires from where I'll fly back. Flights were relatively cheap because I'm not flying into or out of Brazil. Absolutely buzzing for this trip!
I've managed to get a hostel sorted in Manaus BA, costs about 45 quid a night though for a sh*t bed in a dorm! Be interested to hear about any Charlton out in Brazil.
My wife is from Brazil and mother-in-law lives in São Paulo, so am considering trying to going over there for some of the tournament.
Christ, why did I pick a missus from Middlesbrough......
From experience, being continents apart and not speaking the same language is the recipe for a good relationship with a mother-in-law...!
We're going out for the knockout rounds until a day or two after the final. Fly on the rest day after the end of the group games, so may well cross the England squad making the reverse journey.
No tickets for any games as yet, but just hope that Brazil reach the latter stages.

You could get up the table by 10 caps before they come out of the woodwork for the 2014-16 campaign as correctly stated above.

If they make it?
It's now a case of finding somewhere to sleep in Manaus, which is proving near impossible!!

Did all the away qualifiers but finding it hard to justify the cost at the moment.
