I know he has confidence in abundance, but i think joining United right after Fergie leaves is a dangerous move.
Comparisons to Ferguson will be immediate and the pressure high, just dont think Jose would do it.
Going Chelsea, where he is loved, with a young attacking squad, bundles to spend and following on from the fat spanish waiter, is a wiser move and one i reckon he will make.
I wouldnt write him off taking the United job in a few years though.
United would want a Manager for the long haul and one that respects the Club and it's history. That rules out Mourinho, who is only interested in himself. Moyes would be favourite. Those that say he hasn't won anything are correct BUT SAF hadn't won too much before he started his United stint, and Moyes has never had a squa like United's to play with. Giggs and Scoles will be appointed assistants........next best after Moyes would be Ole Gunar.
Before joining Man U he won: Scottish First Division (1): 1976–77 - with St Mirren. Then at Aberdeen: Scottish Premier Division (3): 1979–80, 1983–84, 1984–85 Scottish Cup (4): 1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86 Scottish League Cup (1): 1985–86 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1982–83 UEFA Super Cup (1): 1983
Fair points BUT Moyes is coaching at a much higher level and has got a team iinto the top echelon of the 'best league in the world' with little money.
Well thats surprised me. My United ST holding colleague has only just stumbled into the office and his first word was Moyes. He reckons he's a better option than Mourinho, especially if he comes in as number 2 alongside Fergie for a year before being handed the reins.
(Personally I'd wet my pants in glee if United snatched Mourinho before Chelsea could get him!)
If you were writing the job spec how would it read? - Must have CL experience and preferably at getting through to the last couple of stages if not actally winning it. - Must be able to negotiate with and bring big name players to the club - Must have a record of domestic success - Must have a record of identifying and developing talent - Must win big games/have a big game temperament - Must be able to deal with big egos inside and outside the club and be able to drop some of these players to the stands or bench and then bring them back and get them playing like their life depends on it and not have them go sulking to the Sun or Mirror. - Must be media friendly/savvy.
Most large clubs change their managers these days very frequently, only Fergie and Wenger have lasted at their clubs for longer than a few years, but they - both in the UK and Europe are unusual. I can't think of a big name club in Europe that has had a manager for longer than say five/six seasons.

Cruyff at Barcelona.
But he is probably the exception, and your point appears correct on the whole.
Also, everybody at United will remember last time Fergie announced his retirement. He did it at the start of the season, announcing he would retire at the end of the season. United finished in their lowest Premiership finish and he was begged to reconsider. So no surprise that this time around there's no warning, or extended period between announcement and retirement. He was always going to have just announce he was off and then go pretty much immediately to avoid the problems they had before.
Huge respect for all that the man has achieved. A winner through & through, who lives & breathes the game.
I know he has his detractors & we all have a laugh at his histrionics and tapping of the watch in games for more "Fergie-time". However, I have only ever heard stories of other managers stating how helpful he is, how giving of his time and how he's usually one of the first to send messages of support.
I think either Mourinho or Moyes, for different reasons, would be very comfortable going there with Fergie still being around day in, day out.

Shame and good luck to a legend.
Would like Jose to go there but unlikely.
Wonder how things would have gone had he gone to Highbury and not Old Trafford.

I can't stand United, but i really like Jose.
Hopefully Moyes will go there and they'll be struggling for 4th next year.

I assumed it was because he's due to have a hip replacement in the summer
What with Jackett yesterday and now Fergie going, CP moves 2 places up the LSM league table.
