Application gone in for a micropub at Danson parade, by the petrol station in Blendon. Fair catchment area there with only the Blackbirds in walking distance

I normally like that site and find myself nodding along in the main, but this comment is a bit shitty.

"It’s a bittersweet moment. Antic tried in Woolwich where no one else did.

Sure the likes of Youngs open places but few others try in the “old” Woolwich. And Youngs are often so very boring."

So, someone else has tried in Woolwich, but I only like the sort of pubs I like and so anything else I'm just going to ignore/dismiss. In this day and age a pub is a pub and we should be thankful there are still some left that the developers haven't got their hands on!

I thought the whole thing was a bit odd - the idea that a pub at that end of Woolwich was somehow silly, because not all the housing had been built. A decent pub is a decent pub, and will normally draw in the punters. If a pub operating company thinks it can make it work, why is it a silly idea.

Probably because The Rose pub is only a few doors down and that is struggling.

Yes it is, so both within 2 minutes walk and not forgetting the Spoons within 10 mins, Earl of Chatham, Elephant & Castle etc.

Sweet mother of Jesus.. the Elephant can never ever be part of any decent pub crawl!

Or maybe i shouldn’t judge a book by its cover… I don’t plan to find out.

How the hell does it remain open?

    * Another incident saw one woman bitten on the breast and bruising to her head.

    * Then on 2nd July there was an assault by a doorman. A woman was throttled.

    * Met PC Mark Evans also stated the site was a base of gangs and that police intelligence stated they were bringing firearms on site. It had been stated in a report that the business had not supplied CCTV to police or met with them when requested.

When I was a real toe rag and was in my nasty piece of work teenage years I worked on a stall on the high pavement the Elephant and Castle was my pub.
Got my first proper good hiding after over stepping the mark in the Elephant.

Needs to be knocked down Clive. Sounds like one scary place! I mean the location would give you that impression from the start. Tho I do enjoy reading reviews.

If this was a normal pub/club it would have been shut down years ago, but it seems places like this can get away with anything, it is in the most unlikely & unwelcoming location for a club/pub you could imagine.

I walked past on my way to work last week and a blokes is sat outside in his suit necking a pint while chatting to his mate who was stood the other side of the barrier.  Like it was the most normal thing to do to stop for a swifty on the way in.

But then I thought to myself he could have been on his way home from work too after a nightshift and that is perfectly acceptable... so I'll be less judgy for now.

    It's still a bit of a hole.

Is it?  They’ve been doing a lot to attract people in with various theme nights. Usually a decent crowd at weekends and a good few Charlton on match days.  Not easy for any pubs these days, especially if they don’t/can’t offer food.

I used to go in there at lunch times about 4 years ago.
About half a dozen in there, whilst the Spoons had maybe 100.

The landlady from The Bull Tavern took it on a couple of years ago when Greenwich Council forced them out of The Bull with a CPO.  She’s worked hard to breathe a bit of life back into it.
