Problems with both bat and ball it seems.

I think the problems with the ball will be rectified when Broad/Finn are back. What about Tremlett?

Batting is where the headaches are. Prior, Bairstow, Pietersen (eventually)? Trott opening the batting? I won't call for wholesale changes as I think we all know what classy players Cook and Bell especially can be. I think Prior has to take back the gloves, whether that should be at the expense of Buttler, I really don't know.

We need a Flintoff in this side, Woakes at 7 isn't good enough.
  • Need Finn & Broad in the bowling attack ( they are obviously being rested). Woakes & Dernbach aren't good enough. Buttler's wicket-keeping is also not good enough, Bairstow needs to come in. Prior should also be in the squad. Rankin is worth a go in the last game, he bowled well in the Sky Pro-40 game the other night, pace & bounce.

I agree with Beefy, the Champions Trophy squad needs re-selecting.

What happened to Samit Patel? He'd be useful at 6 or 7 and can bowl a few overs for little runs.
  • The sooner Trott is out of ODI's the better. Sorry but game changed in last year and cannot have him clogging up the powerplays.

2 sides to the argument though. The other side is that he's a solid, reliable player and if he can stay in and get you 60/70 runs at a SR of 80 and a big hitter like Root, Morgan or (when fit) KP can stay with him at a SR of 100/110 then we'll do ok. England aren't going to bomb out a guy who averages 50.
this imo although he does need to speed up at the end or get out sometimes. Trott doesn't score quickly but lays a platform. Dropping him would be stupid
Mental. Yeah, get him out. The bloke has just scored a hundred whilst those down the other end fell over like drunks at closing time.

Good to know its not just football that people on here spout crap about - at least there is a level of consistency.

Wasn't he the one who had a few weight issues?

yep, he has to play, its 5,6 and 7 that England need to sort out.
  • Trotts record speaks for itself, the guy is class.

You can't have 11 big hitters in the team. You need players to lay the foundations and keep the score ticking and allow the flair players like KP and bell to score runs fast. His strike rate today was ~100 which is bloody good going.

He is the perfect #3 in test and one dayers imo.

Agree that broad and finn will improve us.

What really baffles me is that prior gets dropped! He is a class keeper and he can score runs quickly a bit lower down the order. He will improve us a lot.
  • Trott is not the problem .. The bowling when the first choice is unavailable is second rate. Dernbach is a major weakness and should never be selected again (I would rather a spinner were included, Treadwell for instance), Bresnan is weak as a one dayer as is Woakes and on the batting side, Morgan, Buttler and Root are all hit and/or miss. What's wrong with Prior, Onions, Patel ?.
I am concerned with Giles (the king of Spain) as the one day coach/manager. What qualifications other than being one of the boys, has he got to be in that role. He seems to have a preference for Warwickshire players. Perhaps he should get out more
  • Why doesn't Prior play one dayers. Decent keeper and can certainly hit out when required.
  • Trott's not the problem if the likes of Morgan are getting runs as they will naturally score quickly but if they aren't (as in these two games) then he becomes the fall guy. Without KP (who should open) we're always going to struggle in ODIs.
Doesn't bother me though as test cricket is all that counts for me-with a little bit of 20/20 for light post-work entertainment
