best pub on an away day?

  • Chaucers Exeter or The Griffin Carlisle. Great CAFC celebrations in the latter on 14/4/12.
  • It may be where i drink regularly, but, the New Barrak Tavern, on Penistone Road about 400 metres from Hillsborough is a decent shout. It a real ale mecca if you like that kind of stuff. Proper old pub. Good banter/chat with Wendies, and the owner Kev is a top bloke (you can't miss him, his build is like tangoman but with a shirt on), compares a bit at the comedy club there once a month. Also you can park easily park behind the pub. Barmaids are not anything to put on a thirst though.

Another shout was the rugby club up at Carlisle.
  • I really like the Green Bricks in Hull last season on the Marina. Shame we are losing that from our fixture list but only from that perspective.
  • Forresters, Southend.
  • The Beehive near Bolton's ground. Decent grub and a good choice of beer including an away day special called "Beehive Yourself" which has a rather fruity taste to it. Should be going back there again next season depending on when it is.

You might be working that day.
  • Always like going to McGintys when in Ipswich.

    Brunswick is great of course.

I was going to go for the NBT. Fantastic pub, and the only decent boozer in Hillsborough by a country mile.

Is that the one with the bar down the left hand side as you walk in, has two rooms on the right and a small paved garden? Quite close to the big Morrisons and Pizza Hut?

    Norwich boozer by the canal.

One of the first games of the season 3/4 years back. Was in there by 10, not a cloud in the sky, sitting by the canal, brilliant day out.
Great shout that - the Compleat Angler isn't it?
    That's the one

  • Curb_its friends pub in Yeovil. Terrible day but quality pub with the hog roast going outside.

  • Its got to be IDOLS in Sunderland , great strippers , and great comedian ...
  • I like the one in Ipswich by the river- can't remember it's name. It's the one betweenthe station and Portman Road. Lovely sitting outside in the sun.
  • The Strawberry in Newcastle.
  • Irish pub next to Liverpool station.

  • The Great Western behind Wolverhampton station.

We was only talking about the pub in Darlington on Saturday.
    Chris Walker the pussy magnet.
  • Cap n Gown at Villa Park (legendary day out there in 1998)
Sky Blue Tavern at Highfield Road Coventry
    The Arkells at Anfield
No idea what it is/was called, but there was a CIU Club behind the away end at Stockport was pure phoenix nights - even had a Hammond organ.
