it will impact on three League seasons not just the one. Absolute farce. Two excellent articles in the Standard tonight about it. It's so political and Blatter is using it to tuck up Platini nicely. I was surprised to learn that Blatter actually voted for the USA and Platini voted for Qatar, maybe, it's suggested, as a favour to Sarkozy. Going to be interesting to see how this pans out.
They are talking about compensating everyone for playing it in the winter.
they are going to have to compensate TV companies, failed bidders like Australia, maybe domestic organisations etc etc. why not just compensate the Qataris and give it to someone else.
Anyone with a bit of common sense knew a Qatar world cup in summer was not possible. But it got voted for and now the dates are trying to be changed is farcical.
Internal football is dying anyway, a Qatar world cup will kill it for good

Totally agree. While the voters in FIFA were busy taking backhanders, did none of them bother to check the temperatures in the desert? Corruption big time, and now FIFA have to rectify their mistake, but being a dictatorship, won't lookm for a sensible venue. But despite reports of 50 (FIFTY!!) dead people, Qatar keeps its wretched world cup, and Sepp Blatter thinks he still has credibility. We should ally ourselves with the French, Germans, Italians, Brazilians and Argentinians and tell them where to stick it. The old gits at FIFA can go and play in 50º heat, and see how the old ticker holds up.
Can someone adapt the FIFA 2015 game to include corrupt old officials and decisions made on the back of money changing hands?
What I cant understand now is why Moyes is coming out saying that the League Cup should be reduced (how?) and that the FA Cup should drop replays for the season (fair enough?)
My great idea was to move the World Cup to the winter but for the one season reduce the Champions and Eurioa League teams to the sole winners of each Euro nation league / cup system (scrap the 3rd / 4th place qualifiers bullshit).
Imagine how many weeknights would be freed up then because there would hardly be as many group matches which means the Premier League can have their re-arranged games in those slots.
Why mess up a perfectly good competition for the Football League sides (at least) when the Championship / League One / League Two games shouldnt need to be re-scheduled
(i.e. how many players from those Divisions go off to major tournaments anyway... For qualifying you'd probably get a few but not for the proper tournament)
I like this: 'The one thing we'll never hear, of course, is a decent argument for why on earth non-democracies are even eligible to bid for Fifa's bauble.'
So true. If they can't allow their people to vote then why should they be involved in any voting process.
They have to come up with a Qatari plan B. Imagine telling some of the richest people on the planet that you've changed your mind and won't in fact be bringing them a World Cup as promised. See you in court? Or perhaps, at the gallows/ end of a sword.

Blatter deserves no better than the gallows in my opinion. I'd love for the FA to invite him to England and put him in the stocks in Trafalgar Square. I'd be back to London like a shot to throw rotten pears from my garden in his face.
The cost is going to be massive as all matches will end up being played in indoor air conditioned stadiums if it is not going to be boycotted. The boycott threats will grow as the tournament nears! Probably the most stupid/corrupt (you decide) decision FIFA have ever made and boy have they made some!!!!!
Anyone who has read Andrew Jennings' book on FIFA will not be remotely surprised by anything they do. Their entire history has been a litany of greed and corruption. It's all about the money, and always has been.

I don't think anyone will be at all surprised to hear the latest news that a top FIFA official was paid over $1m by a Qatari firm in the weeks just after they were awarded the world cup.
And that this has only come to light because Warner had to process the money through one of his American bank accounts (thus alerting the FBI) as the Cayman Islands didn't want to touch it as they suspected it was too dodgy.
Surely if a formal FBI investigation uncovers concrete evidence of financial wrongdoings even FIFA can't ignore that. Wouldn't this also serve as a basis for the countries who lost our to Qatar to take a claim to the court of arbitration ?

I'm confident there would be fatalities & it won't happen in the summer.

What an absolute mess. We're having discussions we shouldn't even be having to have.
