Met an old mate of mine from the Ferrier, his son plays No6 for Phoenix (Fitchett). Looked very comfortable on the ball for a centre back.
Nice to see Corne back in a Welling shirt. Hope he gets taken on.
Welling changed 11 at half time.
Fancy Dartford for the league, but can see Welling having a good season.

Phoenix looked a well organised side

    You going Saturday Steve?

Read that Corne played. As you say, would be good to have him back.
  • Yeah mate, good centre mid who is always looking for the ball.
    Just what they need IMO.

No mate would rather stick pins in my eyes than watch a pre-season friendly

Welling have signed winger Christie Pattison from Phoenix (and also re-signed Ben Jefford)

Sussex is a lovely county, I can see some great days out trying to tick off this league next season.

Hopefully Hailsham can bounce back after an awful season last year!!

Nope, ended up on 8-pts, scored just 32-goals, conceded 158 so ended up with a Goal Difference of -126

They're not the greatest team in Sussex but even I was shocked to read about this season they've just had. Hailsham got relegated about ten years ago though and bounced straight back so hoping they can do the same this time round.
  • Read the other day that Billericay's wage bill is in the region of 25k a week! Crazy money.

That said, they will absolutely walk the Isthmian league this season, signed 7-8 players this summer and every one of them has come from 1 or 2 divisions higher. Not to mention the likes of Konchesky and O'hara are still there from last season.

The problem with ploughing money to buy promotion in the non-league is when the money men pull out.

    It often ends in tears.
  • To be honest i think he'll stick around to at least get them to the National league but not sure beyond that. I don't see how they'll have a fan base to go much further and he'll soon get tired of pumping in that sort of cash each week.

Christie is very raw but bags of potential, he played in the Phoenix v Welling friendly then Welling gave him a two game trial, after playing 60 minutes against Charlton , they decided to sign him.

  • That kind of money is unsustainable at that level. It'll end in tears

Found myself at Rushden and Higham v Rushden and Diamonds, psf playing for some little local cup they play for every year, they're soon to share Hayden Rd when improvements are complete, few hundred fans watched high scoring but poor game, 5 goals a few beers and a laugh, enjoyed it.

Actually named him as ' Lisburn' on the score sheet!

There's a hybrid nobody wants to see. ;-)

Tbh I'm not really sure who originally played there, but the ground is in hayden Rd, Rushden, typically very small but they are spending some cash, small social club has been there for years, on Saturday we entered via the club into the bar and then your in, old main stand being refurbished and a small home end being put up, record attendance is about 2k although that maybe under pressure if Diamonds start winning.
