RIP Jimmy loved Match of the Day and along with Brian Moore and The Big Match were a big part of growing up in the 70's when it came to watching football on the TV.
Yes, I can feel the excitement of hearing the theme tune then the Jimmy's assured presentation. As a kid, it was special. As was the big match. Time passes and things that seem so permanent at the time become memories. Jimmy was a pathfinder. An ideas man, a visionary, much like Duchatelet. The difference being, that his ideas were good and he wasn't a fool. Maybe he was the opposite of Duchatelet actually! It tells you a lot about life, that somebody like him should have been leading the game at the very top (FIFA) instead of the mob we got. He still had a massive influence. People blame him for sky high player salaries, but that is untrue. They should praise him for players no longer being exploited. The fact they are now doing the exploiting is not down to him at all. He was a doer and we should all mourn his passing. Although the Jimmy we admire probably passed some time ago, with that awful illness.
