They have some great bottled beers in Wetherspoons. I'd particularly recommend, Sierra Nevada Porter, Meantime Chocolate Porter and Pawel Kwak.

Can I urge anyone with an interest to lobby their MP about Heineken's proposed take over of Punch Taverns. We're already losing 29 pubs a week across the UK. It's likely that this move would make it worse. But, even if they kept all 1900 pubs open, they'd still be selling Heineken.

For those going to Rochdale, this shop is on the walk between Manchester Victoria and Piccadilly: http://beermoth.co.uk/shop/

I'm looking forward to the train home already!
  • For those in Manchester tomorrow (or at any time), the Piccadilly Tap is an excellent pub, right next to the station, on the slip road up to the main entrance...enjoy!

    Anyone a fan of Innis&Gunn?

Tried their lager the other day and thought it was quite nice, anyone tell me what their beers/ipa like?

Get me some nice fruit flavoured lagers mate and I'll take them off you at Shrewsbury.

Had a few in Edinburgh where it is understandably popular. It's ok. I prefer their IPA to Brew Dogs

I really like their rum flavoured one. I do think their beers are a little pricey though.

I'm not to sure if the lager is pricey as I had a couple of pints with lunch in silk&grain so any draught would have been £6/£7 in there.

I'll certainly be trying their IPA and the rum flavour one.

Have been working in Belgium since Thursday and have been plastered every night. Going to a beer tasting tonight but this is the best one I've had so far, anyone going over for the St Truiden protest should look out for Brussels Beer Project's stuff, it's all fantastic.

What did people think of CBR#17? I got there early doors Friday and some of the beer I wanted had already sold out.
All was not lost they had Bourbon Country Stout downstairs. Amazing drop.
    Anyone find anything outstanding?

For one reason or another my beer drinking on yesterday's trip was a little disappointing, so I'm making up for it now with a few Belgian beers from my collection.

I'm going to make it my mission over the next few weeks so seek out this Wim's bar favourite: https://www.brouwerijwilderen.be/index.php/nl/bieren/wilderen-goud
  • @PopIcon I went on the Sat evening and my overall impression was that I did not think it was as good as last year...how can it be CBR when Meantime (and to a certain extent Brewdog) are there?..and don't get me started on Fullers trying to take it all over...

That said, I did have some great beers...it's just that I am struggling to remember which ones were which...I should have been using Untappd... I started with a Canopy IPA which I loved, had a couple of grapefruit IPAs and um......not sure. I don't actually remember leaving....

I've not got any more beer events lined up now til Sept when I'll be at the Beavertown bash....

I've got tickets for this too, the line up looks good. Most of the brewries at the Beavertown gig were not at #CBR17. I've also got tickets for London Craft Beer festival, I think that is in September.

Craft beer fest is £42.50 for a 5 hr session. I know that includes all the beer you can drink but it sounds expensive.
Is that just because I'm not used to paying upfront for my beer??

Its a tricky one to answer. Of course you could get pissed for a lot less. It just depends how interested you are at trying the different beers. I got an early bird ticket for £30. I probably spent less than £42.50 on beer at #CBR17 but then I could easily spend £42.50 on a night just on beer.
If you like to indulge on the barrel aged beer's, the sours and the curious then it works out at £8.50 an hour. I've spent more than that in Crossbars..

Early bird price doesn't seem so bad. I'm tempted now.

  • I don't know what I have done without Guinness up until now in my life.

Had always hated it when having a sip so never ordered one.

Well, recently my mate convinced me to have a pint and promised me by the end of a full one, I'd love it. Well, right he was.

    A complete revelation.

To become a proper Guinness drinker you will need to learn the phrase 'it's good, but it doesn't taste as good as it does in Ireland' whilst looking knowingly and wistfully into the distance
