I know in a mates office in the city they did a burger challenge last week. How many McDonald’s burgers in 20 mins , 9 was what the lad ate . Tame compared to 17 pint man !!
Funnily enough when I was at BGC we used to have the ESB Challenge. If the ECB were expected to make a change on interest rates at their monthly meeting we had to go to the pub at noon and try and drink 5 pints of Fullers ESB in 30 mins to be back for the announcement at 12.45. No one ever did it, but two of us managed 4 1/2 pints.
That's interesting. Staro are my clients, I will try to find out what this brew is. They have a second beer brand called Branik, named after the area across the river from Smichov, where they used to have their second brewery.. I would think it is this brew they use for own label.
Czechs are as tribal as anyone about beer, and Branik is much criticized as the beer of choice of the down and outs, but my client tells me that in blind tests it does pretty well.
Personally, I never choose Staro, nor do any friends I have beers with, but it is often about your personal taste on the bitter vs sweet spectrum. Pilsner Urquell is at the bitter end, Staro in the middle, and Budvar is sweet. I was gobsmacked to learn that Budvar have always added sugar, even as they have run ad campaigns emphasizing all the other modern brewing shortcuts and scams that they reject. Many complain that Budvar gives them a hangover, and I guess that is why.
If anyone is going to Southend today, there's a good chance of getting an absolutely fabulous beer. Grafton's Caramel Stout. It's the best beer I've had this year. They had it on yesterday in The Last Post (Spoons).
Remember being locked out of our guestroom in Prague and happening upon a beer pump in a car park... Had a beer called Samson, which was very cheap and more than drinkable. We got mashed for a week, so could be a false memory.
I hope the beer is good. They ain't fooling with the "the decor is just a notch or two above shed" comment. And what on earth is that Garage Beer? It looks like a pint of semi-congealed fat from a large pack of ASDA's cheapest sausages.
Currently drinking Deptford's very own 'Villages Brewery' beer whenever I see it on or make it to their taproom....Rafiki (session ale) a particular favourite... Am also spending more time in the River Ale House on Woolwich Road, which means I'm drinking a whole load of cask ales I normally wouldn't go near... Cloudwater, Northern Monk, BBN & Moor still my favourite UK breweries though, with a shout out to Beavertown for the go to back up beer of Lupoloid (or Neck Oil if I'm on for a session) and Wild Beer Co for some of their experimentation brews...
Neck oil a mere £5.65 in the bulls head in chislehurst at the moment!
Omnipresent - kirkstall + others (inc wylams) - good Mindsweeper - brass castle 10.5%, £6 a half >4.1 on untapped- very good
For those going to Bradford- record has Westbrook’s Mexican cake - yes it’s a way from London, yes there’s a rail strike, yes it’s about £15 a pint but.... it is meant to be ******* amazing
@McBobbin on paper chilli in beer .... But suspect this is good stuff, where did you get it
The Moulsham Tap in Chelmsford. Got loads of different beers and ciders on tap, and loads of gins. Had a pink pepper and one that had been matured in Cuban rum casks. Nice. Interesting bar, but lacking in atmosphere.
The beer was very tasty, and the chilli was only a hint. I had a beer once that was actually really spicy, and couldn't drink it, it was simply unpleasant.
