RC Lens begin talks for Yohan Thuram-Ulien
According to our colleagues at But!, RC Lens have opened discussions for the transfer of Standard Liege goalkeeper Yohan Thuram-Ulien.

The player is unhappy at the Belgian outfit after failing to become the number one choice, and a loan to English club Charlton Athletic last season proved just as unsuccessful.

Lens would have to pay around €3m to get the player, but he is not their only option at present.

if he's sold for 3 million euros i'll admit Duchatelet is a football business genius. Let's hope it didn't translate wrong and SL won't have to pay Lens 3 million.

    Seriously, wow.

3 million euro! We'd have given him to Millwall or Palace for free provided he played every game.

Someone at Liege paid €1.5m for Thuram even though he had been a free transfer between french clubs earlier in his career. He isn't coming back to the Valley and will never be first choice at Liege so they either sell him or loan him to another network club.
I don't have a problem with loans within the network but if they don't work out this needs to be managed and players go back.
Perhaps everyone learns from January / February and they get better at putting the right players at the right clubs?
The Belgian Jupiler league does have financial rules so the Liege management will always be looking to ship out players who aren't in the first team...Same as us.

Was he that bad ? I know he came in at Liege and instantly started moaning and complaining, demanding the number 1 spot and so on. I read somewhere that he refused to train or show up for you guys ?

I personally think it was down to the fact that we had 2 competent goalies in January and it was not an area where we needed a player . When he signed some reports were suggesting he was a candidate for the French World Cup squad . Therefore, our expectations were high.

In my view because he punched rather than caught the ball his style was not suited to the Championship . His cause was not helped by a howler against Middlesbrough 20 minutes into his debut . I suspect he would be competent in a European league although the price tag does look on the high side.

I thought he was absolute pony .... looked like an accident waiting to happen, maybe he lost confidence, maybe he never had it, I dont know but he looked like a serious liability everytime he was near the ball... IMHO

On the bench tonight for Liege against Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifier. How on earth can this player be in a team aiming for that tournament?

Ajdarevic is on the bench as well.
