Absolute joke, just parked the car up,had R5 live on and caught the commentator saying game off at charlton, had to check on here to believe it. I left home at 11 so not too bad for me but feel for all fans, home and away who have many miles to travel and no game to see. Farcical.0
-
Barnsley team coach hadn't arrive when the decision was made , which leads me to believe all down to the referee in calling the game off0
-
Apparently, the staff at The Valley are blaming the ref...0

Lol. Don't rememner Wallsall getting a 3 point fine a couple of years ago when the game was cancelled just as I arrived. Disappointing of course but if you want to blame anyone then blame Murrey for not investing more in t when we had cash in the PL days.
Fair enough but this is the 4th game we've called off this season!0 -
I mentioned this on an previous thread about a week or so ago. Seeing as we have been drawn away to Huddersfield in the Cup I think someone at the club should think seriously about asking the FA if we can switch Tuesday's match elsewhere and then get to work digging up the drainage system & rectify the problem. No more sticking plasters - get to the root of the problem NOW. We have 4 weeks until the next home league match which should be long enough to fix the problem.Callumcafc said:
Just realised that 22nd Feb is most likely 5th round day so another possible postponement. 2/3 of the next two months home league games.Callumcafc said:
Well with only one more home game this month (that'll be postponed anyway if we get to the next round of the cup) and only two in February, it's now or never.... or in the summer.Saga Lout said:
Whole pitch has to be dug up and relaid as far as I know - not something you should do mid-season. Maybe we have to consider a ground-share until the end of the season???Callumcafc said:So how long does it take to get a new drainage system installed and is it worth getting the Oxford game moved to an away fixture and postponing the next x amount of home games now?
Gives us until 8th March to be ready.0 -
Blame for the state of the pitch is not much use now. Considering what to do about managing the pitch is important and more constructive.
Some investment / rental of maintenance equipment is needed pronto to help the ground staff get the pitch through the next 2 months of winter.
Looking at the communication, and procedures that led to this shambles to prevent it happening again is important too.
It would be nice to see that there is someone is steering the ship on a management and operational level.1 -
Couldnt the club pay for a local ref to come down to the ground and check tne pitch a couple of times a week to give his views etc. At least that way we could avoid making ourselves look stupid.0
-
I wonder if this stupid ref would be kind enough to reimburse my fare to Australia. I pay a small fortune to see a few games each year only for some twat who has probably never played on a muddy pitch, to ruin things. The pitch could not have been any worse than it was against Wednesday. I don't blame the club, this is down to the ref. The club did everything they could to improve the pitch this past week. I'm furious about this. So many crazy decisions in football these days, it does make you wonder about far Eastern betting consortiums.

if barnsly chief exec is right and we refused an inspection yesterday then someone made a very bad call3
-
This never would have happened in the Airman Brown days4
-
I'm going with this for now. I'm sure we've played on worse and maybe the ref just didn't fancy plodding round in mud for 90 minutes.Norfolk_Addick said:We've had a dome on the pitch all week and looking at some of the pics on twitter the pitch looks absolutely fine and the club obviously thought so too which is why they felt a pitch inspection wasn't necessary. I suspect this is just a very bad call by the ref.

I wonder if the Barnsley chief exec would be willing to pay for the referee to turn up?LargeAddick said:if barnsly chief exec is right and we refused an inspection yesterday then someone made a very bad call

Statement on the OS: "After the inspection and discussion with both managers, referee Iain Williamson called the game off on safety grounds."Beckboy said:Barnsley team coach hadn't arrive when the decision was made , which leads me to believe all down to the referee in calling the game off

An hour gone and still no update. I think they're still trying to think of which excuse they can use.1
-
Sounds like the ref couldnt be bothered to play the match today... another D'Urso sounding prick
If that is the case maybe he should pocket the fee for the Barnsley coaches1 -
Interesting that the minute's applause 're the people who have sadly passed away during the last 12 months was not scheduled for today. Is it not normally held on the first home game after new year?0
-
Why would they have to? It was a fair thing to ask us to do considering recent events. And obviously was right to have done so.East_Stand_Loopy said:

Reported on R5 Live: reason for postponement is that "surface water makes the pitch unplayable". I'm still waiting for a good reason why this couldn't have been decided earlier to save on supporters' time and expense...
I'm sure we'll hear more about this but i fail to see how there can be surface water on the pitch when it's been covered by a dome all week. The pitch can't be worse than the Sheff Weds game.
Barnsley are blaming us. We're blaming the ref.1 - Sponsored links:

Yeah it's the refs fault.
If the pitch was really all hunky dorey the ref wouldn't have even bothered calling an inspection
SOMEONE inside the club must have had an incling this MIGHT happen.
They tried to blag it, it failed, they've mugged the fans off, AGAIN2 -
Was there rain last night and no dome ?
When was the dome taken off , how long does it take to come off?
Someone has to take responsibility from now on in about the potential for a game to be called off ...... But we know they'll be saying there's a chance it might not take place for all games now to cover their arse !0 -
I'm pissed off. It's 6:20 am in California and I've just got up to listen to the game. Cup of tea in hand and all that. Now I'm stuck with watching the Premiership crap. Oh well, that's life.6
-
Blaming the ref? Lol...0
-
Dome went back Thursday0

Why are so many of you blaming the club? THEY CANNOT CALL A GAME OFF!!! IT IS THE REFEREE!!! The ref does not come in hours before the game, he will not come the day before. The club would have loved it if the ref came in yesterday - or to inspect the pitch this morning. It doesn't work like that!! Stop moaning about decision making - they can't call it off until the ref decides whether to play, and he did that at about 1:30pm5
-
Rubbish....how can a game get called off a day before then like the cup game? The club make contact with the league, who contact a ref to visit and make his mind up or give it more time.SparrowHawk said:Why are so many of you blaming the club? THEY CANNOT CALL A GAME OFF!!! I do feel sorry for all the CAFC fans who have travelled a long distance. Having been to barnsley however I guess if they had a choice of:
1. Staying in barnsley for the w/e
2. Watching a poor quality match between too struggling teams.
3. Sitting in the sun, having a beer in Royal Greenwich.
You could say we have done them a favour, maybe they paid the ref off.
