Wayne Rooney - Is He Worth £300,000 a week?

Heard on the news this morning, that Wayne Rooney is set to sign a new 5 year contract worth £300,000 a week, (75 million over 5 years) is he really worth those sort of wages, are Man United better off cashing in on him?

Oh ,and apparently he gets to have a say in player transfers as well?

  • He isn't worth 300,000 over ten years. Football's gone mad.
  • Madd-er.
  • If the richest club in the country decide to pay him that, then yes he is worth it.
  • they will make him captain which a lot of united fans not happy with. Has now proved twice over he is mainly in it for the money. disgusting that when proper clubs like Darlington are going out of business he isn't happy with 250k a week.

Will forgive him if he plays well for England in Brazil this summer.
  • Not a chance, he's not even really that good in terms of world class footballers.
  • Nobody is worth that
  • He is worth that as united are willing to pay it. But he is not worth that at all no. I think it's more if united loss him they will be even worse off
  • It's cheaper than buying another top drawer striker - that's why he's worth it

65 million over 4 years. Could of had Falcoa or cavani or even Ronaldo

yeah but you have to pay their wages on top of that
  • Utter madness, once you put his wages up to those levels then RVP and the rest of the big names will want parity.

    Its a very slippery slope.

Get rid of him for 30mil.

Sign 2 or 3 players who are on the up.

No, but that doesn't say much!

I can't see how any player who has to have the team adapt to suit HIS style of play can we worth so much, as he's now also becoming injury prone as well there must be other players who United could improve their team with for a lot less money.

There are many. Cristiano Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Iniesta, Xavi, Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Fabregas, Bale. Could go on.
  • Can't help thinking this is just an insurance policy.
If a new deal wasn't offered he would only have a year left come the summer and utd wouldn't be in a strong bargaining position regarding transfer fee.
Same happened to Ronaldo and I think the same is happening to baines at Everton.

Other than RvP, what other big names have they got? Not one in my eyes.

  • you don't get what you're worth .. you get what you negotiate

    Was this a serious question?
  • He will be able to afford quite a few grannies on that wedge.
  • It's not football anymore, it's big business. ):

Well - it'll stop him dying or ever getting ill or unhappy. Won't it? Greed is always harmful, especially when it is fed, to the greedy and the people that supply it and the people who go without because of it.
