The following SMS message has been sent to relatives: "Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived. As you will hear in the next hour from Malaysia's Prime Minister, we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean."
The plane was supposed to be flying to Beijing? They are saying it ended up totally in the opposite direction. Can't see it being pilot error. More to come but it looks like it was a hijack or pilot suicide mission. If the latter surely he would have dumped the plane earlier. Still a mystery and we might never find out the truth. Scary stuff.
Families informed face to face. Confirmation by text where they were not contactable directly and as a confirmation to those they had already seen as a precursor to the PM's announcement.
Just arrived in Kuala Lumper from Bangkok. Flight starts with attendant announcing over com that the Malaysian flight wreckage had been found and can we have a minutes silence and pray for the victims and families. Fine, but unfortunately then followed by the most turbulent take off and also landing I've ever experienced. I don't like flying anyway so not a fun flight.
Horrible time for the families. At least the plane has been confirmed, the families know for sure and things can move on to the next stage.

Well, whilst they have officially concluded that the plane crashed into the southern portion of the Indian Ocean they certainly have not found the plane wreckage just yet.
Could take quite some time too as apparently the weather is taking a turn for the worse out there.

Must have lost something in the translation. Still not really confirmed 100% then. Tough for the families, thoughts are with them.

The only thing certain is it was deliberate, you dont fly in the complete opposite direction if you have plane troubles.... thats pretty much been known for the last week or so. What they need to find out, is why.. so they can rule out more potential hijackings

Im sure if it was caused by hijackers/terrorists someone would have claimed responsibility. Im suspecting that it was one of the flight crew going bok like the German Wings plane a few months ago.
In Googling trying to find this I found a pull quote from another interview that said "Mr. Wise admitted he has no idea why Putin would want to hijack a plane."
The whole thing reads like a kind of mediocre action movie. I might watch it on Netflix late one night while I was half asleep and fall asleep about midway through.
Agree that this will be one of those never to be solved mysteries that occur happily extremely infrequently. It does surprise me that this can happen in this day and age but I guess the oceans are big places and so not that hard to understand.
I feel very sorry for the families who will never know what happened to their loved ones, how or where they died it must be dreadful. As for the Russian hijack theory.....give me a break!

For the record I was not advocating the theory, more laughing at its silliness.
It's got to be awful for the families not knowing.
Two odd stories that came out of this though was that there were 4 people who checked -in (but never made it to the check-in desk), and also there were 2 Iranians travelling on false passports on the plane. But to this day, no-one, not even the British tabloids, have found out who they were who didn't make the flight.

People travel on stolen passports all the time - especially from countries where getting a stolen passport is often easier than getting a legitimate one. People also regularly check in for flights and don't board. It's understandable that people search for conspiracy theoriea at times like this encase the truth (a plane disappearing) just seems to difficult to comprehend. But the truth of the matter is, it just isn't that easy to effectively track aircraft when a malfunction or other incident occurs that renders the crew incommunicado, with current systems. Add a massive ocean into the mix and you begin to understand the enormity of the search task begins to make more sense. Add the fact that the plane may or may not have deviated from its course...
I understand that people can easily get stolen passports etc., and i also accept that regularly people check in and miss the flight - however, its the fact that those 4 people who missed the flight have not come forward or been 'discovered' - even if only for them to make a bit of money in the tabloids.

And spawned an interesting and yet totally pointless conspiracy theory from CNN Aviation Expert (or something like that) Jeff Wise that the plane was hijacked by the Russians flown to Kazakhstan. Why? Well, let me tell you....
In Googling trying to find this I found a pull quote from another interview that said "Mr. Wise admitted he has no idea why Putin would want to hijack a plane."
