Absolutely devastated by this appalling treatment of a man who never gave Charlton Athletic less than his best as a man, player and manager.
Harry Corbett Roland Duchatelet, Sooty Katrien Meire you are a disgrace.
You can tell your spivvy shiny suited double glazing salesman Kensell that he can have my seat for his empty Crossbar. I will not support a regime next season via a season ticket that conducts itself in such a cowardly fashion. I also will not now be attending the Huddersfield game and quite possibly any more matches this season.
Ben you can rub your hands together and think "well we've already got your money Len you MUUUUUUGGGG!!!!" but you won't have it next season mate.
Customer "churn" doesn't apply to third division football clubs. Football fans have been pushed around for long enough. I'm doing something about it by voting with my feet for at least one match.
Chris Powell will get a better job and I hope his team come to The Valley and give Charlton a tonking. The one and only time I won't support my beloved club. I'm beyond angry with this decision.
Can I just ask: does anyone actually think that the current situation was working for anyone, including CP? It is only down to the character of the man that he stuck it out so long, but this situation is just not working and so this had to come to a head, much as I would not have wanted it to. Unless anyone has a spare £20m/£30m+ in their back pockets, it is RD's money that is keeping the club afloat, so he deserves the chance to try and run it as he sees best. CP deserves a chance to go on and be successful in a system that he believes in and that believes in him and I am sure he will get it.
I can't believe this has happened. We have definitely lost our Charlton again. We lost it after Curbs left and it never felt the same until Powell stepped in. He's done us so proud and with what he had to use.
I'm devastated. Roland is going to tear us to shreds.
An e-mail is going off to the Director with IMMEDIATE effect. (The e-mail is on the "Contact the club regarding the Powell division". I encourage all to e-mail in. Please keep it constructive and conservative.
We will not find another manager who truly loved us as much as Chrissy did....
Owner Roland Duchtelet said: We have been working with Chris Powell and his representatives for a couple of weeks to try and agree a contract extension which would have seen us continue to work together.
There was good progress, but we could not reach an agreement over the clubs football strategy going forward
The situation put a strain on the working relationship between Chris and the board. Therefore I think it is best for all parties that we part ways at this stage.
I would like to thank Chris for his commitment and hard work over the past three years. The club enjoyed a number of good times under his leadership.
However, given the clubs position in the league and the number of important fixtures upcoming, I felt this difficult decision was unavoidable at this time.
We will look to quickly appoint a replacement who we feel will give us the best chance of avoiding relegation from the Championship.
I can assure supporters this was not an easy decision, but it has been made with the clubs future in mind. Time will tell if it is the right decision.

I will be emailing the club as well, and I strongly urge others to do the same.

Please keep it polite and constructive. This is our chance to voice what we think and what we want. After everything Powell has done for us, I think he deserves a few minutes of our time to write an e-mail on his behalf!! The way they treated Chrissy was disgusting.

That pretty much says what we all knew, RD wants a coach but CP wants to be a manager - that leads to an inevitable conclusion.
Exactly. My take is that Powell has been given the chance to buy into RD's "vision" but he clearly doesn't agree with it.
It was only going to end like this. I just wish RD had done it 4/5 weeks ago.
Agreed, as Airman and others said it would have been better if Powell walked back in January.
I understand Powell was doing what he thought was right but the two had fundamentally different views on the way ahead, it simply was not reconcilable.

Clearly Chris and Roland could not agree on how things would progress, but it was never a stalemate really - RD is the owner and the boss, if CP did not buckle under and agree, there would only be one winner in their argument. The timing is the worst part of this for me, things haven't been great for a long time now, but this is exactly the time everyone needs to be pulling together, not digging other fans out for boycotting/not boycotting, or backing/not backing the poor shmuck who has to step up as manager.
So, Chris Powell has gone. The end of an era which started when he became an unexpected legend as a player for us under Curbs. Three spells as a player, one as a coach and then his managerial reign. We all not see him back at the Valley other than as a future honoured guest or as the manager of the opposition. That makes me very sad.
As a player and as a man, I always admired and “loved” Chris Powell. I was delighted when he “came home” to be our manager and the happiness of the league one champions season will always stay with me. As the anti and pro Chris Powell camps emerged over the past couple of years, I found myself in the pro camp. It wasn’t so much a logical and reasoned choice, although there were facts to support that stance; it was an emotional choice. Chris Powell was Charlton; it felt good to have him at the club again; it felt more like “our Charlton” than it had for years.
Yet, I have to admit to mixed feelings about his departure.
On the credit side of the Chris Powell account:
- he is irrefutably, a club legend. One of the most popular figures at the club in my lifetime (58 now, and an addick since the age of 5) - he played a key role in rebuilding the Charlton ethos first established under Curbs - he recruited a completely new squad for the league one campaign and quickly forged a great team spirit - he led us to a record breaking season as league one champions, and consolidation in our first season back in the championship, despite difficult conditions - we will never know for sure what might have been, had the previous regime been able to fund and support a significant strengthening of the squad when we are promoted - but I suspect Chrissie would have been able to at least make us a top half Championship club
On the debit side:
- I don’t think too many people would argue with the view that he was tactically limited - his tendency to play square pegs in round holes, to put individuals ahead of team needs, was a weakness - a Curbs like caution, which led to often very negative line ups and performances where we seemed to be hoping for a break rather than making things happen, sitting back and defending a point when it was becoming increasingly obvious that we needed wins - he has generally failed to make effective use of the loans system and the reported unwillingness of some clubs, agents and players to see Charlton as a good development opportunity is mostly due to him
As I say, we will never know what might have been with the right backing. When the takeover happened I really hoped that we would find out, and that Chrissie would be given funds and support to show us that what he did in League One could be emulated at the higher level. Roland’s apparent business and operating model, with finances as tight as before, a ruthless approach to value generation in his contractual and transfer business and a (over) dependence on youth means that was never going to happen. I guess I feel that Chris Powell is a better team builder and motivator than a tactician or a coach, and RDs plan seems to suggest we need the latter skill set more.
Why now? I suspect that the “footballing issues” referred to by Chrissie in the recent reference to his contractual discussions are central to that decision. I don’t think that RD and CP were ever going to see eye to eye on these, especially player recruitment. If it isn’t going to work then there was only ever going to be one outcome, sooner or later.
So it’s goodbye, Chrissie. And you go with the respect, appreciation and admiration of (still) the great majority of Charlton fans - even those who, like me, have mixed feelings or those that were outright demanding a change. You are, and always will be, a Charlton legend.
Something must have happened before the game Sunday, that'd explain Powell's odd behaviour, our limp performance, that cryptic tweet everyone jumped on in the evening.
The speed of Riga or Rigo's appointment or whatever also shows it's been a long time coming, though we all knew it would come eventually. The timing though, is very odd. Maybe Roland said something like "play certain players on TV on Sunday so the world can see them" and Powell rightly told him to go f*** himself.
I doubt I'll renew my season ticket now. As someone else has said, Charlton is greater than Powell but this doesn't feel like Charlton. It's certainly not the club I grew up and fell in love with.
We might not agree with RD but I guess he is not a stupid man. It is becoming obvious that RD and CP were not agreeing and therefore I'm sure that RD has had his new manager ready to join for the last couple of weeks, so he will not be arriving with no knowledge of our team but will have been well briefed. It will be interesting what happens to the rest of CP's managerial team, my guess is that Dyer will go but the rest remain for now.
Exactly what he did at standard... maybe we had all become chaltonised maybe a complete change top to bottom will make us a modern forward thinking club..instead of good old charlton...
Powelly did superb on the resources available, ok he made some wrong decisions but all managers do , i wish him all the best for the future , only time will tell if it is the right decision , we all need to remember people move on or should i say get moved on , but all us fans will still be around , yes its a sad day ,but its our club and we are probably one of the proudest set of supporters in the country , we have been through worse and we came back better for it , and now we have to get behind the players and try and stay in this division.
I received my Valley Gold advertisement package in the post this morning. Two actually. The sacking of Powell now and replacing him with Riga just goes to show we truly are a feeder team now. I'm not going to spend my money to send our brightest talents to Belgium thanks very much
I have to decide whether I want to pay good money to support Standard Liege's feeder club next season. Whether I support a club that treats a legend so badly. Chris Powell was sacked because he stood up for us - he could have been a yes man but he would never stab us in the backs - If he brought another team to the Valley under this ownership, I'll be cheering as they score against us. I love this club, but this has broken me - I am angry and disgusted!

What a pathetic comment. Most (if not all) of us like Chris Powell, but who the f*ck would seriously support the opposition if and when he comes to the Valley as an opposition manager?!

JR? rename Sparrows Lane to South Fork?????
Similar to Yann they couldn't agree a contract. Purely probably because the contracts offered probably are not worth the paper their written on.
