I think the players will be said to see Chris go but they may enjoy a fresh approach to training.
I am not saying Powell shoudl have gone i am still not happy about it but can imagine it will freshen the methods up etc.0 -

Will take a few games to make a full impression (good or bad) but we set up as well as could be hoped, didnt concede and played some passing football. Certainly not the end of the world. Any hostility should really be directed at RD if you think it's necessary; this guy has come in with a job to do and is most likely trying his hardest to do it. He's not gonna want to lose is he?3

Pocchetino (sp?) has been used as an example of a relatively unknown foreign manager taking over in controversial circumstances, but if we're taking examples from Southampton, then this guy seems more of a Mark Wotte, who managed them as they dropped out of the championship with us in 2009.
If you take the name of AC Milan away from Riga's CV, his career seems to have had a fairly similar trajectory (wandering between coaching and technical / consultant type roles without really becoming established anywhere) as Wotte's.2 -
Nice suit, nice tan, very skinny legs and reminded me of a younger Barry Manilow. Liked a bit of arm waving, very continental. Didn't have time to bring the Shaman along to play mind games with the opposition.0

I'm not going to call it one way or another after just one game. We played a lot better than I expected last night, but had we not been missing the target we could have had a few in the net. Being realistic the lads have just lost a manager with whom I expect they had a great working relationship and have had less than 48 hours with the new guy. Saturday will be more telling, but given it's a game where pride and honour are at stake as well as the 3 points that may not be the fairest test for the new guy. The long term impression I think is whether we stay up or go down. All we can do is turn up watch the lads and sing for Charlton. Oh, and pray - divine intervention would be handy!0

Yes of course but I think sacking a manager when were bottom of the league is a good thing for a start and like Iv said before I'm optimistic for the future , new pitch , updated training ground better match day experience. So far I'm struggling to see what he's done wrong apart from sell yann but even that I can half understand.Uboat said:

Charlton Athletic need to win a lot more games and escape relegation. That is the bottom line in this new landscape.
The bigger picture is the bigger picture, but some kind of respite from all that is to narrow down the focus and see Charlton Athletic win matches. Draws and defeats are not good enough.0 -
Agreed. I have missed that, and would much rather have wins than draws but as long as the mathematics are favourable, however it is done I expect the changes to mean we avoid relegation one way or another.reserves said:
