  • I was at Upton Park as well tonight, and I agree with allez les addicks. Poyet moved the ball from side to side a lot, picking the ball up from defence in the hope of starting moves, but couldn't do anything particularly attacking with the ball. To be fair, the forwards weren't giving him many options, but it does seem like his default setting is to play the simple ball or go backwards rather than attempt to play it through.

West Ham looked like a side struggling to adapt a new passing style of play tonight, so maybe I'm being unfair in this criticism of Poyet.

Is that any different to what he done for us

What did your West Ham supporting mate at work think of him tonight?

I never saw him play for us, so I can't really say.

He wasn't helped by Ravel Morrison also playing deep, meaning there was no real connection with the front two.
  • I didn't go to west ham last night and like Poyet I'd need a few million to go there unless Charlton were there , shame on you all even if it was a freebie
  • Poyet looked class? I should think so against a League One reserve team.
  • Wtf are you all doing at Upton shite

I'm going to ask my mate tomorrow what he thought of Poyet tonight.

Can't wait to find out what he said. In fact, I've been up all night pacing up and down in anticipation.
  • Campbell-Ryce came off the bench for Sheffield Utd as well.
  • Sad to say i went Upton Park as well last night (Sheff Utd end to be fair) and Poyet looked ordinary in my opinion. Too many 5 yard sideways passes and not enough penetration, although in fairness the rest of the West Ham team looked worse.

Same as he did here then.

  • Sorry guys, it might seem like treason but I'm a football fan. I'll go to basically any game to enjoy the game, and a few beers with mates who support other teams if I can't make it to ours or they're at different times to ours.

One of the joys of being young and relatively commitment free (as well as getting a fair few corporate seats through work) is that I got to over 50 games last season in leagues ranging from the Premiership to Conference South, via La Liga and the World Cup. But The Valley will always feel like home to me.
  • My mate has confirmed Poyet reminded him of a certain Ipswich and Charlton ex pro with a name like a Netherlands region.
  • He's a good player. We may dislike the way he left. However, someone does not become a bad player just because they piss you off. Comments that criticise the way he plays when the same people were building him up as our saviour last season are wide of the mark.

At the moment, as he did for us, he is clearly playing the game as simply as he can. Get the ball and give it to a teammate. Even if that means he passes five or ten yards. Give me that over someone who tries to play sixty yard balls and regularly fails.

He will adapt his game as time goes on or he will be seen as someone who is too negative and one dimensional to play at the top level.
  • The match report in the Standard tonight gave him a lot of praise

Sorry forgot you cant have an opinion, as I said at one point Spurs were massively odds on, at one point Liverpool were massively odds on for Remy and look where he is now Arsenal or Chelsea This transfer Window has been hard to call and Obviously Liverpool. Spurs, Man Utd decided against him as no one would choose West Ham over them
