Yet another farce this morning. 07.58 Welling to Cannon St gets as far as New Cross and is pulling out of the station when someone pulls the emergency cord. Train duly stops with only the last carriage still adjacent to the platform. Passenger having some sort of fit. Fair enough. They eventually get him off the train and he's sitting on the platform with staff and possibly medical personnel attending to him. So the train can continue right? Right? No! All off please. Train is terminating at New Cross (even though 90% of it is actually past New Cross). No reason given but I think we all know that it's because the train would have been more than 30 minutes late into Cannon St and they'd have to pay compensation. They have to get all 10 coaches worth of passengers off through the last coach and we're now all milling around at New Cross with no trains advertised on the adjacent platform and our old train blocking the other one. Eventually an 8 coach train pulls in, already rammed of course, and 10 coaches of passengers attempt to force their way on. I somehow managed to get on and pulled into Cannon St at 9.13, 40 minutes late. Absolute fuckwits!!
I can assure you that the pittance of paying out compensation is no where near the fine they will get from NR. There will be another reason why it terminated.

South Eastern just run the trains. They cannot make decisions about scheduling, routing and cancellations etc.
Driving a train is not like driving a bus. Trains have to follow the points and signals which are controlled entirely by Network Rail under instructions from the rail regulator (i.e. the government).
I'm not trying to defend South-Eastern but I think criticism should be directed at the real cause of the problem.
With the ongoing works at London Bridge it's probably operating at full capacity. That means that the delay at New Cross probably meant it was a choice of either cancel that train, or try and create the necessary gap at London Bridge by delaying a whole load of other trains.

Take your point, although don't agree entirely. If that is the case, why is it that Network Rail keep picking on South Eastern, why is it the South Eastern passengers get a worse service than everyone else in the country, when the fault is actually with Network Rail who are also responsible for the lines that all the other Train Operating Companies use?
After the Blackburn game, I attended the protest and then went for a few beers, left the pub at 8.30pm, got the train from Charlton to Plumstead, rail replacement to Dartford, train to Gravesend, changed for the train to Strood, rail replacement to Gillingham, then train to Faversham, fell asleep on the train and woke up just before bloody Birchington on Sea at 1am, cab back to Faversham cost me 40 quid.
I could go on and on about the wonderful service provided by Southeastern Trains.

That's ridiculous. Four and half hours! There's always a long wait at Dartford for a connection regardless of engineering works.
