  • Sounds like he might of known he was dying from what I have read he apologized and buried the hatchet with 3 people who he used to be friends with before he had a argument with them,
Vince McMahon, Jake Roberts and Hulk Hogan,
Then 3 days later he dies, It might just be a coincidence but seems to me like he knew something was wrong
  • Was my favourie Wrestler to watch when i was young during the era of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, et all. His "Career Match" with Randy Savage was superb.

That Chris Benoit incident is shocking.

Heard he killed his family with his signature move
    very classy comment
I might have put it bluntly, but there was genuinely a rumour that that was what happened

I think that was actually just a bad joke
Yep, spot on. It's not as if several people have already agreed with me or anything.

His wife had bruising to her back indicating a knee was pushed in as well as strangulation marks from a cord pulled around her neck, autopsy said that he pushed his knee into her back whilst pulling a cord around her neck, not exactly the crippler cross face but some similarities as in it was pressure exerted from behind.

Saw a lot of wrestling as a kid, he wasn't the best technically but what a character. It's a shame they had to put their bodies through so much for entertainment resulting in many early deaths, but I guess they knew the risks. Remember when he returned to wwf wearing that body suit, all the rumours it was a different guy etc. God it was fun being a kid back then.
    RIP

I'd guess a vast majority of them are tossers.

It is an interesting "sport" if you delve behind the scenes. Lots of very interesting stories and tales of people washed up in probably one of the most unregulated forms of entertainment in the world.

You may be surprised to see some of the faces in here

Saw that Nancy Benoit died 2 days before Chris so wondered what had happened, I decided to look into it and saw it was a double murder suicide,
Seriously what possess a man to do something like that,

Not only is it a horrible horrible thing, but its the time difference as well he killed his wife then waited a day before killing his son then it was still a few hours after, that he killed himself.

Long term effects on the brain of steroid and recreational drug abuse. The man was not right in the head, clearly.

He wasn't on drugs! Some doctors believe it was due to the amount of head injuries he suffered in the ring which messed up his brain, a lot of American footballers have similar brains due to the impacts they suffer. Apparently his brain was similar to an 80 year olds. I don't think anything has been conclusive yet, it's meant to be a very interesting case if you're in to that sort of thing.
  • From EPSN - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit had a steroid and other drugs in his system when he killed his wife and young son last month and hanged himself in the family's home, investigators said Tuesday. Benoit's body contained 10 times the normal level of testosterone, as well as amounts of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller hydrocodone, authorities said.

To be honest I dont know many 80 years olds who decide to murder their wife, son and then kill themselves over a 2 day period

Probably because they're not alive anymore?! The key word you highlighted was similar.
  • After the double-murder suicide, former wrestler Christopher Nowinski contacted Michael Benoit, father of Chris Benoit, suggesting that years of trauma to his son's brain may have led to his actions.

Tests were conducted on Benoit's brain by Julian Bailes, the head of neurosurgery at West Virginia University, and results showed that "Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient."

He was reported to have had an advanced form of dementia, similar to the brains of four retired NFL players who had suffered multiple concussions, sank into depression, and harmed themselves or others.

Bailes and his colleagues concluded that repeated concussions can lead to dementia, which can contribute to severe behavioral problems.

Benoit's father suggests that brain damage may have been the leading cause of the crime.

Benoit's body contained 10 times the normal level of testosterone, as well as amounts of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller hydrocodone, authorities said.

Toxicology reports released on July 17, 2007 revealed that at their time of death, Nancy had three different drugs in her system: Xanax, hydrocodone, and hydromorphone, all of which were found at the therapeutic rather than toxic levels. Daniel was found to have Xanax in his system, which led the chief medical examiner to believe that he was sedated before he was murdered. Benoit was found to have Xanax, hydrocodone, and an elevated level of testosterone, caused by a synthetic form of the hormone, in his system. The chief medical examiner attributed the testosterone level to Benoit possibly being treated for a deficiency caused by previous steroid abuse or testicular insufficiency. There was no indication that anything in Benoit's body contributed to his violent behavior that led to the murder–suicide, concluding that there was no "roid-rage" involved.[108] Prior to the murder–suicide, Benoit had been given illegal steroids not in compliance with WWE's Talent Wellness Program in February 2006. Benoit received nandrolone and anastrozole. During the investigation into steroid abuse, it was revealed that other wrestlers had also been given steroids.[109][110]

Hydrocodone is most commonly found in cough medicine.
  • And the bit under it says "Prior to the murder–suicide, Benoit had been given illegal steroids not in compliance with WWE's Talent Wellness Program in February 2006. Benoit received nandrolone and anastrozole. During the investigation into steroid abuse, it was revealed that other wrestlers had also been given steroids.[109][110]"

Maybe drugs/steroids weren't entirely the cause of it, but they were a part of his life and likely to have played a part.
  • Yeah, I didn't know that, I guess they were all at it, and probably still are.

    No, there wasn't.
Probably the worst story associated with all deaths in the industry. Sadly I think the industry is so under regulated and a law unto itself, and this contributed to what happened.
  • Raw is to be a tribute to the ultimate warrior.

Though the Warrior was still "young" when he died, there are a lot of people in the industry who pass away a lot younger.

Crash Holly, Umaga, Test were all in their late 20s, 30s.

    Viscera/Mable also died recently.

I think Yokozuna was also quite young, but then he was huge

Just watched his hall of fame speech from a few days ago, quite spooky really.

"Every man's heart, one day, beats its final beat, his lungs breathe their final breath"
  • Vince McMahon also has a lot to answer for. He's manipulated a number of people along the way. He basically got free reign once WCW went under. There was no competition left and wrestlers were either out of work or had Japan, and they could only go to Japan if they were technical wrestlers. He has always liked wrestlers of a certain size and physique and probably encouraged steroid use. Plus the fact most of them are on the road (or were when I was watching) 360 odd days a year, they burn out.
  • What sort of money are these wrestlers on?
  • What sort of money are these wrestlers on?

I haven't watched it for years but I reckon the top names of my day (the rock, stone cold etc) probably got 3m U.S dollars a year, maybe more. I think I remember Brett Hart saying he got offered something like that as an offer for WCW. Read Brett Hart's auto-biography. Even if you don't like wrestling it is a good insight into a peculiar industry.

I haven't watched it since 2001, so can't comment on the last 13 years

Didn't know Crash, Umaga or Test had died. Bloody hell.
