Robin Hood's Bay is on the quiet side, but great views and a few nice character character pubs. Whitby is also great if you like bustling towns0

Another shout for Studland, and another for Sennen Cove0

Maldon, although maybe not strictly seaside.0

We have about ten pubs in Hythe....and the sea....and lots of old people. That's about it0

Sorry you didn't enjoy it Sadie. Tbh if your looking for amusements and things to amuse the kids, rides and whatnot it's not blessed with much other than the beach and a small aquarium & a bit of crazy golf. Things start to pick up with kids activities, temporary rides, etc next weekend really so maybe give it a go another time of year instead.sadiejane1981 said:
Yes indeed what's a grockle? Lolmistrollingin said:
Dare I ask what a "Grockle" is BA?Bournemouth Addick said:
True but at least the pier is free!Plumstead_Micky said:
A trip back through Boscomb will put that into perspective!sadiejane1981 said:Just leaving Bournemouth, what a cack hdon't
Parking diabolical, you have to pay to walk on the pier, a couple of over priced rides, beach was ok but not worth the time and hassle getting there.
Tbf most locals don't go near Bournemouth beach and pier - too many grockles about for starters - but the gardens are starting to look their usual lovely self. Didn't fancy the balloon ride then Sadie?

No BA I didn't I stayed for 20 mins and on the way home we went to Southsea again for a stretch of legs, something to eat etc just leaving southsea now I like it even more now.
Hope you and the kids enjoy the rest of the hols wherever you decide to go though.1 -
Whitby is glorious. Great fish and chips. Sandy beach. Ruined Abbey. Shambles with old curiosity shops like York. And the main draw for any Addick (and Harry Potter fan) - real steam!rananegra said:Last couple of years we've been up north in the Summer, Scarborough and Whitby. Kids enjoyed both, have almost everything you want in seaside and good countryside a few miles inland.

Surprised no-one has mentioned anywhere on the Isle of Wight. Ventnor and Shanklin are both nice. Ventnor wins as it has the Spyglass Inn as well.1

Pretty much all of the west coast of Guernsey0

Leigh on sea
We have a day trip there 3 or 4 times a year great pubs and fish stalls and er pubs and erm fish stalls1 -
All depends what you're after. If it's kiss me quick hats, amusements, a pier, chips and a few pints then head to Clacton or Hastings.
Personally, I want a large expanse of sand, rock pools, surf and a lazy day on the beach. So we head to Polzeath normally. Can't beat it.0 -

For people who appreciate decent pubs, The Crooked Billet is hard to beat.creepyaddick said:Leigh on sea

No-one's mentioned Scotland yet...fantastic empty beaches and the sun does sometimes shine. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.
(Or did the referendum happen and I missed it?)1 -
Dover, as you can get the boat across to France and get as far away as you can from an English beach. The only thing you're guaranteed at an English beach is a good night out.0
