Don't care, greedy bastard, was never likely to play regular games.
Yeah just like that Nick Pope that used to play for us. Left to sit on the bench behind Tom Heaton at Burnley. What an idiot. Heaton is touted as a possible England player. Bet Pope don’t get a look in for next four years.

We got money for Pope and he was a modest lad and good luck to him. Hamer thought he was god...went from first choice to third choice..thought players liked to play football.
Never got the claim that Hamer was arrogant. It seemed to largely be based on the fact that he shouted a lot at his defenders. Pope got the reverse criticism about not being assertive enough. Cantona and Ronaldo had obvious displays of arrogance but always thought it was an accusation based on negligible evidence with Hamer. Decent keeper

Really not sure this is true about Hamer.
There was a good interview published with him in the SLP as his contract wound down. I stand to be corrected but I think he said he had been talking terms with Powell and the club but when Douchbag took over all discussions stopped and his contract was just allowed to run down. In such circumstances, I don't blame him for grabbing a 3 year deal with Leicester on higher wages than he was on at Charlton.
If Amos goes at the end of the year, I'd be happy to have Hamer back.

Shouted at his defenders, high fived every player before the game, tried to gee the crowd up and 'milked it' when we won. Personally I liked seeing a keeper who was a) a bit mad like they're meant to be and b) looked like he enjoyed sharing in enjoying a victory with the fans. But then we're Charlton and when a player shows a bit of personality we tend to panic and dig them out. It's odd.
I ain't talking about a player who is on 30/40k a week moving to get 80/90k
I am talking about Ben Hamer, we have all seen over the years careers ending early (look at Ryan Mason recently).
Now put yourself in Ben Hamers position say you was earning 8k a week and you had 2 choices.
Stay earning 8k a week for the next 3 years and a few people lile you for staying loyal or move and get 30k a week.
Now lets say you take the 8k have 2 good seaaons then get injured and it ends your career, you are then thinking if i had taken the 30k i would have alot more in my bank. and now my career is over do the fans that were happy i stayed loyal care about me anymore no they will move on to next keeper they have.
What i am getting at is football isnt a definate income so I dont blame players like Hamer taking the money

A) Elliot is better than Hamer imo and I would love him back once RD has gone.
B )Hamer got the chance to play in the PL meaning he could test himself against the best, maybe he has not proven to be a true PL keeper but if he had any ambition he was right to go for footballing reasons to test himself. In addition he probably got a contract that sets him up for life which, when your career ends at mid 30’s - 40 would be daft to turn down. I have been offered interviews for roles double my current salary and turned them down as I like where I am and the roles were not right for me/would have increased stress levels and worsened my live/work balance, plus my career is likely to take me through to 60 and is on a reasonable trajectory where I am. Hamer moved to do exactly the same thing (goalkeeping) with no real risk/additional stress (if he ‘failed’ he had a decent contract and would be picked up again by another club). Leicester are almost certainly a better employer than us at the moment on almost every level for a footballer due to the money they have - better money, larger crowd/better atmosphere, more stability etc. The only downside I see is being based in Leicester.
C) the grief Poyet gets on here is odd. He came through our yoof, signed a professional contract (many others have not... Defoe, Lloyd Samuel, Huddart, Palmer etc), saw out his contract, helped save us from relegation in his 1st team matches and then got offered vastly higher wages by a team higher in the pyramid and chose to move on. It is our fault for not offering him a longer contract initially, it is the mad world of footballs fault a PL club can offer such daft wages to a young and relatively unproven pro. It is a point of conjecture whether the move filled his pockets with money, his head with ego and he drifted to the level he is now because of this and hence made a wrong decision for his future career or whether he just was not that good anyway and would have ended up where he is now even had he stayed with us but just been poorer (monetary wise) for it.

Was like Ilic at Birmingham.
The Leicester move could have been Hamer's one chance of a life changing pay day. I don't begrudge him that for one moment.
The same goes for Poyet and Elliott as well.
Good luck to him.
Does Henderson still play for Forest?
However, the point I am making is that the size of the contract is the first question asked by a footballer. The rest is secondary.

At least he has won POTY even though he has only played 15 games for Schadenfreude FC.
