Nathan Jones, You've Been Gone Too Long

  • Hope Nathan Jones does well at the Hatters he is a great Coach and will be a great Manager.
The U21 players at CAFC benefited from his coaching ability as they won their league & National Cup Final v Cardiff City in 2012-13.
Remember him saying in an interview that he loved his squad of players!
He is a dedicated football man, what a trick we've missed as I think he would have accepted the challenge of managing at the Valley.
He is experienced in the Championship with B&HA and will have learned well from Chris Hughton. He is obviously very ambitious and I'm sure he will be successful at Luton.
Good luck Nathan maybe we will see you installed at the Valley someday when the Belgian Circus has left and we get someone in who understands how to run a Football club properly!!
  • Ben Roberts to follow him. Only jesting.
  • Good luck to him. Think he might have been a good manager for us done great with our kids.surely he would have been good at putting youngsters in first team so Roland could sell them.

    Thought this myself actually
  • Another missed trick by our wonderfull CEO. While we slump to the foot of the championship, our interim coach continues to work the magic that got Hamme FC in Belgium so high. And we can't even look into someone like Nathan Jones. It's a pathetic state of affairs. I wish Nathan all the best at Luton, and wish KM, KF and RD would disappear forever.
  • "You never left us,
    You were never gone.
You've been gone too long, Nathen Jones "

    Supremes.
  • I thought everybody wanted an experienced championship manager? Can't have it both ways to suit, despite doing an excellent job with our under 21'a the only other experience he's had is as coach at brighton. Not even assistant manager. Good luck to him, a very good opportunity to prove he can cut it as a number 1 but expectations will be high considering the money they have/are spending.

He was assistant manager at Yeovil before he came to Charlton

This this his record with Brighton (from Wiki)

    "Brighton & Hove Albion[edit]
On 19 July 2013, Jones joined Football League Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion, filling the new position of assistant head coach, working under Head Coach Óscar García.[5] Following Oscar's departure from Brighton and the appointment of new manager Sami Hyypiä, Jones changed roles and became Brighton's first-team coach. Hyypia's resignation on 22 December 2014, Jones was appointed as interim manager.[6] Following Chris Hughton's appointment as manager on 31 December 2014, Jones moved back to his role as assistant manager.[7] On 3 February 2015, after the appointment of Colin Calderwood as Hughton's assistant manager Jones was demoted to the role of first-team coach.[8]"

He still has more relevant experience that Fraeye.

He got demoted and Brighton have gone from strength to strength. We need somebody who's done it before. Yes, he'd be better than Karel, but he's not what we need right now!

  • If we want someone like Nathan Jones in charge why not just have Jason Euell...?

Nathan has been gone from Charlton for three years now so despite knowing the likes of Jordan Cousins he won't know too much about the younger kids coming through like Konsa... on the other hand I'd be surprised if Euell doesnt know the majority of the kids playing U18 Football right through to the Senior squad...

I think NJ would have been a great signing for us. He has helped coach the England U21s as well. Let's see how he does at Luton.

Every appointment is a risk but this would have been a brave and ambitious appointment for a club with a good youth set up and a lot of players new to England who need coaching. I can't believe that under normal circumstances he wouldn't have applied for the job here when Luzon was sacked. Maybe he did even in the abnormal situation we are in now.

My bad, he's been Assistant at Yeovil and for just over a month. Still doesn't change what I say. People have detested the fact that Freye looks to be our manager because he's to inexperienced for the job and they don't think he's qualified but then are saying we've missed a trick with Nathan Jones??? It seems like double standards to me, is it because Jones is English? Is it because Jones has worked here before and done wonders with our U21? Is it because Freye is from the Network? I personally am dead set against Freye as manager as it's shown in his 10 plus games that he doesn't have clue and isn't up for the job and I also wish Jones the best. Hopefully Jones proves himself at Luton and then one day moves onto bigger and better things managing us one day.

Nathan Jones would have been a superb Choice for Charlton.

Knows the club and rated by fans and players from that time.

A young coach who is well respected in the English game and who's wages wouldn't have been too high as he realizes that make your name as a number 1 and then get the bigger contract.

When we have a New Owners who has a clue, Maybe He could come back after cutting his teeth in League 2.
I just hope by then it a step up and not a sideways move !
  • Of course Fraeye is unqualified for the job, but Jones would also be a risk as manager. Most of his work was as coach, similar to Damian Matthew's role with us I guess.

Hughton and Calderwood have been a pairing at their previous clubs, I don't know how much input Jones would have had on player recruitment, for example
  • Killerandflash.

    Everyone is a risk,

That's the nature of the business.

The truth is until we have new owners, who ever takes over is under such a handicap. Pep and Jose would struggle here.
  • Jones isn't English.

    He is highly regarded.

He is willing to drop down to league 2 to be a boss.

No, he's never managed in the Belgium 3rd division and he hasn't been part of Roland's brilliant scouting networking but other than that he would have been an ideal choice and I was saying so even a before Roland sacked Powell, maybe earlier.

A Welshman coming back to the Valley,
To the green green grass of home.
It would have been a perfect dove tail.
A Welsh rare bit of good news to get our teeth into.

Do he fail the height test ?

I could be wrong, as a certain song might say, but the detestation of Fraeye is only really because he's s***e.

If he'd been some up and coming talent, we'd have been delighted (mostly), but the next Arsene Wenger he is not (he's not even competent enough to be a complete arse).

Do his fail the height test ?

Get Sordell in too if we're getting Church back.
  • A bona Fide Welshman from The Valleys,
The rhondda, not Young Simon Church, who only qualified because his Grandad once climbed Snowdon.
  • Good job for him - Luton are a decent club.
  • Can we chip in for a skeleton with a sign that says... Hi, I'm Katrien, and I still wont piss off

Was thinking just that last night.
  • Anyone else wish he was our manager?

Yes but not under this regime
  • I think he'd get more out of this lot than Slade
