I think I took a look in there once, and when I saw the price I was shocked.

Standard fish bar is very good.
  • The ones I make in the oven.
  • I enjoyed the chips inside the ground at Hartlepool away.

Best ever is probably a chipshop in Aberdeen.
  • Marino's in Rye...Cooked 3 times over and are absolutely delicous
  • Kim's fish and chips in Plumstead, but that was some years back... Not even sure the shop is still there.

For me Mother Kellys Fish and Chips on the Southampton Road, in Solent

  • Royal Fish Bar - East Hill Dartford.

Especially at 3am after at night at Zens/Flicks
  • best chips I've ever had were from oohaah at the poker table :)
  • Sparkes (Blackheath Standard) for sausages, and the chippy next door win both surveys.

  • If you were talking fast food chains

    Then for me

    Burger King first
    KFC second
    Mc D's third

Over fast food outlets ie Chicken or Kebab shops i dont use
  • Tom Bells in Bexleyheath
  • Chip shop at Blackheath standard is the best around
  • Rick Stein's restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall.
Ridiculously expensive, obviously, but fucking outstanding.
  • Oban, circa 1982 on a school week at inverlever lodge.

  • 'Bells' is by the water fountain near the clock tower

  • The chip shop opposite Blackheath Station has changed hands and is not any good any more, but still expensive. The best ever were at the Ocean Breeze chippy near Surrey Docks station...long gone. Nearest to the Valley the one in the village is better than Seabay or the one up Church Lane.
  • best in London - Brockley Rock, can highly recommend that fish shop.

best in UK - Ilfracombe, N Devon.
  • Beluga in Eden park under the old owners ... No question.
  • I laughed at Mcdonalds too. How best chips ever and Mcdonalds can be in the same sentence is just beyond me.
  • the chippy on the corner of Lowfield street & Oakfield Lane in Dartford (nr the Orange Tree)

mate of mine once made me come off the M1 as we drove home from an away game to sample the chips from a chippy voted the 2nd best in England..........in Milton Keynes. I thought they were naff.

  • LOL

You start a thread on chips and of the hundreds and thousands of proper chippies of triple-cooked posh restaurants, you put up as your first offering McDonalds fries !!

You are rapidly becoming a favourite of mine on here Pauline....

    Here to please

Do I have a claim for trying to bring down my Burger thread???

  • Best fish and chips I ever had was in Whitby, great mushy peas as well.
  • Marinos at Avery Hill is the best around.
  • The ones that I always remember were in my car delivery days. I was in a village in darkest W. Sussex at about 7 p.m waiting for a colleague to pick me up. I was cold, tired and starving but suddenly out the gloom one of those old mobile fish and chip vans appeared. It stopped by some house just down the road so I nipped down and bought a bag of chips. How they could produce such wonderful chips in the cramped conditions of that wreck of a van is beyond me : they were truly delicious.
