    Still feels like my Charlton
    Play at the Vallley
    Play in in Red,
    run out to Billy Cotton,
2nd tier football at a reasonable price
    Good youth policy,
    Low expectations,

As long as I get a pint in the Lib and take a familiar seat I can identify with my Charlton and the four generations that have followed it

Is now any worse than under the rule of
    The Gliksteins
    The Selhurst Days
    TJ and co?

Yes there is a turnover in coaching and playing staff but when I remember the latter premiership years, could anyone name the team, I couldn't, I lost track of Diamis and Diawhamas that didn't feel like my Charlton.

Unless we have a number of key additions and a manager quickly to the squad we will struggle next year but struggling doesn't mean it doesn't feel like my Charlton.

There are many unanswered questions about my club but to me, and maybe me alone, the sense of identity is not one of them.

I totally respect the opinion of those who do feel disenfranchised by the current regime and am regretful that's the case but I honestly can't see how or why you feel that way. I am not right, you are not wrong, I guess its just opinions.
    As someone else said somewhere

I hate change in life in general it takes me a while to get into the groove of what has happened

Then I take stock look back and think well if that never happened there is a good chance that other things that have been really positive wouldn't have happened

Football is a reflection of life in many ways

It picks you up when you least expect it

It kicks you hard when you least expect it

It provides you with friendship and some fantastic memories

It defines who you are as a person

It's easy to look at the madrids the barca the man utds and citehs the arsenal Tottenham and Chelsea

And think id like to experience half the success you have had

But for some unknown reason mainly family you gravitated towards cafc

You could've side stepped that and chosen someone else

You never and things have never been easy following this club

This is another part of nearly 110 years of history

In 110 years time who knows where this period will rate

I can not believe I have read someone willing to put 50 quid on us going down and yet they will proudly say and rightly so to anyone who asks I am charlton

Are you really if that's how you will show your support

    Un fucking believable

I used to sometimes back against us (basically given up gambling though now cos I'm shit) as a sentimental hedge a buffer ,
I would only bet what I could afford and looked at it as would you pay x amount to see us win that game/ get promotion/stay up and the answer would be yes and I'd happily lose it when sometimes the results came our way
I would also shamefully back the scum/palace to win/get promoted/stay up and again would I pay x amount for their failure , yes
Stopped stupid gambling the beginning of 2013 ( I still have an infrequent token bet) so it's my fault palace went up aaaaah

The way I show support is screaming my nut off at the game not waving my betting slip around

If you start a thread with the heading "Was there any point in staying up?", do expect to be shot down for it after the turmoil, trauma and drama of last season. If, obviously, you have a hankering for League 1, then there are clubs not too distant that will cater for you.

It was and is a ridiculous subject heading.

Huh? Whats placing a bet got to do with not supporting your team proudly, bet with your head and hope with your heart. If we go down, good bet, money in the bank.. if we don't then it's your own fault but happy days! We'd be safe. 75% of my Charlton related bets are when I don't fancy us, through certain things i.e. injuries, starting line up etc. the other 25% will be with my heart on us to win with gut feeling, etc.

We can always rely on nla for some perspective when it's needed.

The subject heading was rash, but I've explained in detail what the meaning was behind it on other posts.

It's turned into an ok thread to express you feel on the matter of our transition.

It's the manor in which it is expressed the bet was said as if it's a cert not to cover the prospect

It was said in a defeated way before a ball is kicked

Some trepidation is fine at the way the club is moving but to give up on the boys before they have a chance is not on

The one thing I keep asking myself is this.....why would RD cough up some £800,000 to provide a 'Premier League' pitch if he did not intend to put some quality players on it?

That was me with the bet. I have seen us in five different countries, seen us play on approximately 135 grounds, nah course I don't support Charlton, course I hope they go down.
I just believe we will go down and want to improve my bank balance.

Disagree with you entirely there, I've said the odd shite but to bet AGAINST your team, that I won't understand.

Football emotion of charlton comes before any cash injection, and I love a football bet.

    That's the truth right there
  • So, we avoided a relegation that would have been unnecessary, but it turned out to be pointless. I'm struggling a bit with both concepts. Can anybody explain?

    :-)
