  • ace photo's Barnie..... I was six deep at the Houses of Parliament, great atmosphere, but certainly crap viewing gallery
  • I'd be kicking the bloke with a camera on a stick right up the arse!
  • @red_murph‌ Yes, took loads and some he blended out, but yes the git...
  • Super photos Barnie. I hope you went in the Liberty Bounds for one of their fantastic value meals.

Watched from just just north of Chelmsford. It was a fantastic experience. Although it was all over in a flash, I was quite satisfied. Now, where have I said that before?

Yeah, I've got the day off for it. Haven't planned where I'm going yet though. I was hoping that I'd find somewhere quiet to see it pass without too many crowds, but looking at the pics for the last two days, that just ain't gonna happen.

Brilliant finish today, well done Nibali.

Fabulous support from the Brits so far. I know the weather's been kind but I get the feeling they would've been there even if were peeing down. Would love to see it down here one day.
    Impressive crowds.

But can anyopne tell me what else happens, or is it just the peoloton go past you for 30 seconds and you go home?

If you were lining the road along the moors, is that basicallyl it?
Remember standing on Bostall Hill and it took about 30secs for them to come past but for about an hour a while beforehand they have carnival type floats coming past chucking out free stuff
I got a bag of haribo. An inflatable air cushion from ibis hotels and an orica team drinks bottle.
Did anyone bag better free stuff?
  • Best thing about it has been the English countryside and the British people. Vive Le UK. (Take that Alex).
  • Just a shame really the Tour of Britain doesnt attract the same interest or get the same media attention.

I know the Tour de France is Cycling's equivalent of the World Series or Super Bowl (Jens Voigts comments not mine) whereas the Tour of Britain is probably the Carling Cup or even Johnstone's Paint Trophy yet some of cycling's big names come over for it now and you still have to do a lot of research to find anything out about it being on

I'm not even going to bother putting my rubbish efforts up that were taken on my Blackberry, after seeing those.
Good day out though in the Trek hospitality lounge with free food and drink all day.
  • That is because in general people are not interested in the tour of britain.

I like NFL - the superbowl gets lots of coverage on mainstream tv but the rest of the season not really anything as most people only interested in the big event.

  • Looks like Froome took a tumble...

  • Injured wrist and hip, cuts on hand, perfect for a day on the cobbles tomorrow.
  • As it's the Tour de France can any one explain why it was necessary to close the centre of the busiest city in England for several hours in rush hour yesterday.

If the Frenchies want to have a bike ride do it in their own country.

    Is that you Katie Hopkins?

Just a shame that around 4 million spectators disagreed with you. Woe betide a country of sports lovers getting behind an international sporting event.

Used to be called the Milk Race once upon a time.

For the same reason it now seems necessary to use our national football stadium every year to hold a league game for a dull, incorrectly named game, in which the participants feel the need to take a rest every 2 seconds and has positions to cater for obese "sportsmen" who like to stand there cuddling other obese men in front of a crowd that thinks chanting "defence" repeatedly is great................. Because we are a nation of diverse sport lovers and there is an interest in it. Especially seeing as cycling is about our most (almost only) successful international sport at the moment.

    ......I'm a fan by the way :-)
  • Absolute brutal day in store for le tour today.
The two statements that really don't sit well are "Paris- roubaix" and "pissing rain"!!
  • Those cobbles are absolutely brutal when it's dry. God alone knows what it's like when it's pouring. Some GC contenders might come a cropper here
  • Chris Froome has apparently crashed again... After his two falls now and Mark Cavendish going down is some French lil bugger putting something in our Earl Grey?

  • I know nothing about cycling apart from the CL threads. Loving watching it and the breakaways/sprint finishes.

What does a top cyclist earn a year?
  • The two scousers on ITV really are the Eric and Ernie of commentating.
  • Froome is out!

Froome out. This is getting fucking stupid now. This is the reason nobody with any sense rides Paris-Roubaix for God's sake - why have the cobbles in this? Absolute fucking lottery.
  • That'll teach Sir Dave for treating Wiggo like a leppar for 18 months. Was absolute madness not taking him.

Froome didn't even make it to the cobbles though.

It varies greatly, you get riders at the top level who will earn roughly £36,000k a year and the rest will depend on bonuses from the results. For example a team who has a bad tour will be left with very little money to split up between the riders (look at Lampre-Merida from last years tour): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Tour_de_France#Prize_money

LOL - I guess there's no excuse for him then. Even I can ride in the rain :)
