Iran vs Nigeria

Really looking forward to seeing how Reza Goochannejhad does tonight. He'll be played, but will he get a look at the ball? The Iran squad has 10 defenders, 8 midfielders and 2 forwards, so I'm guessing he'll be lucky to not be feeling a bit lonely up top on his own by 90 minutes.

He'll get chances. Even Bosnia got a chance against the Argies - and took it. Honduras also had opportunities against France. Nigeria should win this easily though.

Back a sending off in the game. 7-2 . Lots of naive tackling from Nigeria with the usual histrionics from the Iranians.
  • Looking forward to this game, i don't care if he was not amazing for us last season, he is still a current Charlton player at the World Cup, a rare thing, so im excited.

    Come on Reza!

    Reza will look good.

Many Charlton fans will get excited by this.

Many Charlton fans will forget we have already seen him play for four months.

If he does look good someone might be bamboozled enough to pay stupid money for him.

    We can but hope!

Reza will come good. This time next year when we are waiting to start in the PL we will be fighting off accepting offers for him.

    That's the thing though.

Just say for example something liked that happened. Reza has a great couple of games, scores a few goals, and Napoli buy him for £5m.

Do you think Charlton's budget for next season would be boosted by that £5m ?

Because i'm my heart i don't think it would have any real impact ( a minor one), and that's part of the major problem i have with this 'project'.

OK. I'm not looking forward to seeing him play now. I've been Charlton(life)ised. Again.

Exactly. We're not spoilt for choice with Charlton players in the World Cup.

i think we only saw Reza puting in 75% effort last season---its such a huge thing for him to be his Country`s super star at a World Cup he wasnt risking injury.

If he does well some one will offer money for him---we might get 50% of it.

if he dosnt have a great world cup i think he could be very good (with the correct support players) next season.

AFKA you are way too quick to write him off on the basis of 20 rubbish performances.
What about Leeds away? - he scored in that one.
  • If we do get the replacement for Yann in the summer, someone more physical and after a proper pre-season in England, i think Reza could be good enough striker for us next season, get us 10-15 goals.

So i personally hope we don't get rid too quickly.

Haven't wrote him off, just haven't really warmed to him yet. Despite him allegedly being signed to us for something like 5 years, it just doesn't to me feel like he is a Charlton player yet.

Probably something to do with the fact that neither the fans or the management staff want him at Charlton

The world cup starts today in earnest as Charlton come to town. Hoping to see a few CAFC flags in the crowd. Go Reza.

I hope Reza can do well but it is a fair bet he will be able to report to Sparrows Lane by the start of July.

You never know though with Football would love to see him fire Iran to the last 16.

If Nigeria are as good as they were in South Africa (i.e. Yakubu's brilliant effort from a yard out) I can actually see Iran nicking something here

Apparently Iran had one of the best defences out of the 32 nations who qualified whilst Nigeria were the lowest scorers... Is this also the first draw of the tournament?

    wrong thread :p

as for reza, he played some really good games in belgium, but he was really not consistent enough. some games you wouldn't even notice he was on the pitch. He definately has the ability to make an impact though, if he has his day he can score really wonderful goals, sometimes from out of nowhere.

i hope he does well for all the charlton fans :)

You have put it a lot more succinctly than I could mate. Part of taking the sting out of losing players for decent money is knowing it can save the club (Robert Lee) or kick the club on (Bowyer, Mills, Jenkinson)

If Reza rattles in 30 goals next season he won't leave for massive dough, he will be swapped back to Standard Liege. And if he wasn't we wouldn't see the money. Roland the rat would just balance the scales a bit and keep pumping reserves our way
