All quiet on the Western Front.

  • Vetokele, who joined Copenhagen in 2012, spoke to the Lions' official website, FCK.dk, outlining his desire to test himself in English football.

"I've always wanted to try playing in England and I believe I have good opportunities to play and continue my development at Charlton. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for me, even though it is not an easy decision," he said.

"I would like to thank everyone at FC Copenhagen because they have given me the chance to become a better player and experience Europa League and Champions League football."

Copenhagen manager Ståle Solbakken revealed a competition for places in the Lions attack forced their hand on the Vetokele deal.

"We think it sensible to agree to the offer and give Igor the opportunity to experience his dream of playing in England at Charlton," he said.

Vetokele started his career in Gent and Cercle Brugge in Belgium, before a switch to the Danish captial.

Not confirmed but BP seemed to suggest that he was on board with his comments earlier today.

    Don't be too sure, Oggy

PL54 is hunkering down in the trenches as we speak ...

...although no sign of a white flag as yet.

@svenclaes: Igor Vetokele (22) will sign a 5-year contract at Charlton Athletic. Belgian striker passes his medicals today in London. #CAFC

Why worry about contract length? Won't stop him going back to Liege when he starts scorinr or going elsewhere for loads of dough if he becomes fantastic will it?

Five years, obviously believes he has potential. If he turns out to be a success this season, it will have to be a silly offer to tempt Roland Duchatelet to sell, as Igor has a longer contract. I think Roland Duchatelet doesn't want another situation like Diego Poyet.

IF he scores loads of goals, he might not go back to Standard (they can't get in the Premier League and that's where the REAL money is) and if he goes for loads of dough, it might just be because he's on a long contract and can't walk away for free.

I wasn't worrying, merely surprised at the length of the contract. Who gets a 5 year deal these days?!

5yrs is a great move for him and us. It gives him long term security so he will feel settled. For us it means we believe he really is gonna be really good and worth a big transfer fee in a year or two

Looking forward to seeing if we finally have a true goal scorer. For a championship club without parachute payments that's an awful lot of money!
