  • All fresh produce

Pitahaya (the yellow kind from Colombia, not the dragonfruit rubbish from Vietnam)
Rainier cherries (now in season - fabulous)
    Sable Seedless grapes
    broad beans
    celery

nice one ghf! (...& all readily available in se london?)
A good question. The yellow pitahaya were briefly all the rage a few years ago, and Tesco were selling then at a pound each (that's basically for a few teaspoons of pulp) being highly nutritious. They have little shelf-life so they have to come by expensive airfreight, whereas the pink dragonfruit can take three weeks or so to get here by sea.

I spent 27 notes in M+S this afternoon, 16 of which went on fruit. 8 quid for 600g (50% extra) Washington Rainiers, gone in a very short time; £4/400g for beautiful mahogany-coloured Kentish cherries; £2/400g Kentish straws (half price) and £2/200g Kentish rassers (half-price). This is fruit of the ultimate quality, and a clear sign that the fresh produce trade is currently dead in the water (Tesco selling stonefruit punnets for 75p) - if world-class fruit like the Rainiers is being sold with 50% extra - at the beginning of the season - something is very wrong. Wait for the dark red Washington Bings soon.

Sable Seedless - the South African is best although Sainsbury also had some nice Brazilian, I think it was. Season finished in May/early June ?

Broad beans and celery - seasonal. No problem. All clear ? Get in there !!

We grow broad beans on our allotment, they are wonderful.

    Roquefort and red wine together

Greek salad - loads of tomatoes, onions, black olives and feta cheese.

Hot and spicy curries - don't spare the ginger, chillies and tomatoes

85% Dark chocolate - not Bourneville or any greasy Cadbury's crap

All fresh fruit and vegetables - but especially juicy ripe figs picked from my own tree down here in Cornwall.

    On the bench:
Pint of 'Proper Job' and peanuts together
  • Exra Mature Canadian Cheddar Cheese
Short Bread (it's like Crack Cocaine to me)
    Lamb Tikka
    Flame Grilled Chicken Breast
Medium cooked steak (very few places get medium right)
  • Fillet steak (rare)
    Lobster
    Lamb shank
    Roasted courgette
    Sweet potato

(Not all at the same time)

Cadbury do make pretty awful "chocolate". Ripe, fresh figs are delicious.

    Bogeys

  • Smoked salmon - I abhor the fetishisation of food, but a good smoked salmon is almost sexual.
Chicken Madras - chilli-hot and sloppy with a sharp tang of lemon juice. With tarka dall and peas pillau rice.
Galia melons - heavenly when they are fully ripe. A pound a pop from my local Turkish deli.
Mild cheeses - Emmenthal, Gruyere, and Jarlsberg.
Salt & vinegar crisps - to complement the delicious hoppy bitterness of copious Larkins Traditional Bitter.

What's the difference between Brussels Sprouts and Bogeys? You can't get your kids to eat sprouts!
  • Point of order Mr Speaker, but I thought combinations weren't allowed on this thread just single items.
If combinations are allowed I would go for my home made Vegetarian Chilli.
  • Tomatoes
    Goats cheese
    Mango
    Chargrilled Squid
Tuna steak - only if incredibly fresh.

No combinations (including curry). They won't count.
