Welling v Charlton - updates

I've come to the conclusion simon church isn't a striker. Honestly think bob should try him in defence. Works hard and will stick to his job, failing that try him in goal.1

Thanks PP!
I remember the 92/93 games, strangely I thought we had a bad record there. Shows you how much notice I must have taken0 -

9) when FPP starts hitting home results don't matter any more and we're going to start pulling away from Bournemouth and Leeds.
10) losing at Welling was actually deliberate to make sure the fan's expectations are managed so that even fourth from bottom is seen as a success
11) we have some promising kids in the under-15s that we will be blooding by Christmas, the future is bright!

It's good luck to lose to Welling (I vaguely recall). Keep the faith.All_Thaid_Up said:Anyone know what our last 20yrs pre season results against welling are? I don't remember many good games and results.

Seriously, what on earth did we gain out of playing Church and Pigott?
Well hopefully Peeters will now know that Church isn't good enough and Pigott needs to go out on loan2 -
Held Welling to 2-0 which is not too bad considering they're a premier league(conference side). Hopefully we can start scoring soon.

The fact we played two different 11's in a 90 minute game of football should tell you how much this game actually matters.
I'd be a lot more concerned if we get beaten by Peterborough with a normal sub routine.0 -
He was a young striker that we signed from Villa. He did OK at reserve level, but never made the 1st team.shootershill2tropics said:

Bob Peeters says striker set to sign for #cafc over the weekend. Wouldn't say who.

Whatever happened to Debolla?0

Promotion contenders. With Church anywhere near the side. PISH !0
-
@RichCawleySLP: Also said other CBs got to raise their game to be ahead of Joe Gomez in his starting thoughts.1

That was horrible......indoors by 5.05 (Sidcup) as I couldn't take anymore.
Won't panic yet, but will air a concern. 2.5 games watched and I'm not really seeing a pattern of play. Well that isn't strictly true, unfortunately, today's involved Lennon hoofing it into touch and Church falling over.
Better second half but still no real goal threat.2 -

Hopefully he can help us muster more than 3 shots on target in almost 4 hours of football :--OTravHouse said:Richard Cawley @RichCawleySLP · 3m

Team in the first half never got going. Dissappointed with the defence Lennon looked off the pace and shaky but got little support from Moro. Wilson was the the better of our two full backs Wiiggys distribution frustrates the hell out of me and was culpable for the penalty after poor clearances from Dillon then Lennon. Midfield was poor and created or supplied little Munns tried his best as did Cousins and up front well it has all been said about Church and Piggott time and again. Holmes-Dennis and Browne fairly anonymous and on this showing not good enough for 1st team football. Welling should have been 3 up at half time.
Second half much better Bikey is a man mountain, Solly getting back to his old self Fox adequate, Gomez what a player he is going to be and on this showing I would move him ahead of Lennon in the pecking order. Captain Jacko prompted and gave some order to proceedings, Buyens looks useful and Nego had some nice touches at RM but is shot shy. Harriott showed flashes of brilliance but was trying to be a superstar, just keep it simple and work on those crosses more. Was impressed with Ansah who is quick but lean and not a hold up player, also had a chance with a header but the effort lacked power and conviction. Vetokele looks as if he could be the business quick and incisive but he desperately needs a target man alongside him. To add insult to injury we got done by Wellings only attack of the second half :-(
Dissappointing result but with two jumbled up elevens each half not the disaster it might seem to some. Out of those on show today the following would be in my match day squad at Brentford, Pope, Solly, Fox, Wiggins, Wilson, Moro, Bikey, Gomez, Cousins, Buyens, Jackson, Harriott, Vetokele Nego plus Gudmundsson, TBH, Reza and A N OTHER keeper.
Edit; forgot Moussa of course :-05 -
I assume he's not talking about Rhys Browne...TravHouse said:Richard Cawley @RichCawleySLP · 3m

Result not the issue, but the fact we can't score goals and barely capable of creating chances is becoming a concern...
But Bobby's got loads of experience, and great knowledge of the Championship, so sure it will all be fine.2 -
He started on the right, moved to the left and then ended up in central midfield. Unfortunately he was pretty crap in all 3 positions.Scoham said:

Surely he is already contracted and as he says a striker to sign, cannot be himScoham said:

BP needs to be finding his best 11 pretty soon and give them a chance to play together.2
-
Even Danny Green scored against this lot. Oh well, I'm sure we'll score one day1

It's an Omen.
The last time we lost at Welling, we finished the season relegated.
Sorry, I didn't need to say that.

He's only 40 to be fair, wouldn't say he has 'loads', and he's only played in the Championship, doubt he watched it week in week out while he was managing a club in Belgium. Not putting him down, but he's been managing just 4 years, not 'loads' of experience, if anything he's inexperienced?Weegie Addick said:Result not the issue, but the fact we can't score goals and barely capable of creating chances is becoming a concern...

Nothing to do with todays game, real judgement comes for the first portion of the League once he's found his team! My only falter in all this signing on the field and behind the scenes, is they don't have enough match time to gel as a team, only another 5 pre-season matches or so until a relentless season begins!0 -
