The BHA's CEO has described the horseracing industry as facing an "existential crisis". Perhaps she'll get a move on about rewriting the Use Of Whip regulations. Minds having been focused somewhat following a parliamentary debate in October 2018, her predecessor, ex bookie Nick Rust told the BBC that "a new structure for penalties and deterrents for overuse of the whip" will be announced in January 2019. (BBC Sport, 14 Dec 2018).
Racing’s ruling body found itself in the embarrassing position of having to row back on comments made this week by its own chief executive, Nick Rust, on the highly emotive subject of whip use. Rust told a BBC journalist that “a new structure for penalties and deterrents for overuse of the whip” would be announced next month, when in fact initial discussions on any such change have not even begun". (The Guardian, 15 Dec 2018)
Did anything change? What was the outcome?
It is now more than two years since the BHA's previous chief executive Nick Rust boldly announced plans for a data-driven jump racing risk model and a review of penalties for breaching rules on whip use by jockeys. They remain works in progress. (BBC Sport, 6 March 2021)
Progress...
Enough about such trivial things as whips. Those who prefer humanity to be placed above non-human animals* might be asking themselves 'How's Princess Latifa these days?' Julie H. has recently expressed "concern". Will the sport continue to accept Latifa's dad's money? No comment on the issue from The Jockey Club. Shhh. Don't upset the Sheikh.

In relation to the photo of Elliott, she said,
“I want people to know what they have seen is absolutely not our industry. Everybody I have spoken with across the sport really wants to shout from the rooftops, 'That isn't us!'"
And regarding the Princess Latifa issue she confirmed that the BHA has been in contact with the government following Dominic Raab’s comments and that the BHA share Raab’s concern.
Blase? I know what she said. And you have read the questions that I raised.
Will the industry continue accept money from the Sheikh? Will the industry put into the public domain the numbers regarding fatalities on training courses? That we have not got this info by now is indicative of an industry that does not want the public to know. And what about the revision to the rules re. use of the whip? The existing rules on whip use are often broken. The thing needs revising - preferably done away with.
It's all so slow, isn't it? Rust was stung into being seen to do something after the Animal Aid petition successfully realised a debate in the Commons. It surprised no-one that the government, the industry's friend, gave a vote of confidence to the status quo (the BHA). I seek its replacement - and its Irish equivalent - with an independent body.
The new BHA CEO spoke of an industry in crisis. Opposition to horseracing increases. Many look forward to its demise.

Why would the BHA make a decision before the United Nations and world governments make theirs ? The UN are still awaiting a response to their enquiry.
Another lenient response from the Irish Regulatory Board, this one concerning Rob James. He will have his rider’s licence removed for a year, except that he won't, as eight months (!) will be suspended. Why bother? Couldn't they just write 'Don't do it again. See you next week' ?
A headline in The Guardian published tonight reads as follows: Gordon Elliot has agreed not to attend racecurses for six months
Defensive, deflective, on the back foot. My comment is about another lenient sanction from the IHRB. The hole is getting bigger and the digging is being done by those within the industry.

Yet he still doesn’t answer any questions posed to him. Get him off the thread.
He has lost all and any credibility in being able to lecture on morality - a man who claims that an animal's life (non-specific so assume it includes insects) is of no less value than that of a human being. 'No less value' indicates that he believes an animal's life is at least as valuable, so by extrapolation potentially more.
I answered someone the other day. I didn't have to do so.
Back to censorship now, is it? A different point of view = get him off the thread. Rattled.
What about the verdict of the IHRB? Fitting for what occurred? Or another cop out?
I don’t think anyone on here is rattled. You’re renowned for not answering questions put to you so I suppose that leads to frustration and annoyance but rattled - no. Most come on this thread to give the odd tip they’ve had or to comment on their enjoyment at having a flutter. I don’t know any other long running thread on here that was started with the aim of bringing together people who share a common passion, where other posters continually attack it. They just leave them to enjoy writing about their enjoyment, whether it be what they’re watching on tv or where they’re going on holiday.
The IHRB are a complete joke and so are the punishments handed out, infact they are not punishments at all. I'm really disgusted and angry by what's happened and how they have not dealt with it! As for you Anna kissed you never answer anything when it's proven what you have stated is incorrect, like facts you have put up that are wrong, the wrong worded petition you put up and there many questions people have asked you that you haven't answered.
@Anna_Kissed should be welcome on this thread. Whilst I personally find it odd that he chooses to focus on animal welfare of all the worlds problems to worry about, he has (at times) prompted legitimate discussion. I have owned horses, love the sport with a passion but we must be open to discussion about ways in which it can be 'improved'.
All that aside. I would like to add. I dip in to CharltonLife to escape work, family and anything else that numbs the senses. It is a place to talk football, fun and just take a break from a serious world that is increasingly intend on eating itself. This thread in particular is a favourite. I don't want to discuss animal welfare issues on CharltonLife. If I did I would click on the animal welfare thread (is there one?). So @Anna_Kissed whilst I respect your contribution please consider that I and maybe not just me don't want to hear this stuff. Life is hard brother, we may not all be in the same boat but we sure as hell are all in the same storm.

Face it, while you have every right to your opinion and we may have a lot more in common than you care to admit when it comes to love and care for animals, you are nothing but a wind up merchant and steaming hypocrite. Still, it's nice to know you're here ..... now ......
Right, I take back what I've said about AK recently. I have absolutely ZERO time for hypocrites. In fact it's almost arrogance - it comes across as if only their questions or points are worthy of response.
I personally think AK should be banned from this thread. I love this thread but he’s kind of winning ( I know it’s not about winning) by taking the thread away from what it’s meant to be. I’m starting to despise him.

He wants a response - a typical WUM.
I know it's hard, and I'm as guilty as the next man, but he really should just be ignored.
Perhaps there should be a standard response to any Anna_Kissed post on this thread, which is the row of Zs posted by Bobmunro earlier or a yawn emoji (if one exists).

Fancy Double Dealing in the 11.45 at Wolverhampton
I've backed Street Kid in the race, a former Jessica Harrington inmate. Both the trainer, Kevin Philippart De Foy (10 wins from 30 runners) and jockey, Benoit de la Sayette (9 wins from 28 rides) have had amazing starts to their respective careers. They've had 5 wins from 8 runners when the two have teamed up. The 6.6 available on Betfair seemed a fair enough price given those stats albeit the horse has to demonstrate that it has improved for the change in scenery.
Dare I also mention that, in the 12.55, Poetic Force runs again. It's 9/1 and I will continue to back it at that sort of price 'til I fall off the cliff!!!
