  • COYBIG!! Brilliant team performance throughout the qualifying campaign. The point against Poland in Dublin, the win against the world champions and of course the 2 legs over Bosnia show you can never bet against the Irish.

    To be fair, to reach the playoffs they only had to come above Scotland in the table :smile:

    True, but we've come from a long way back. Not too far back we were 4th in our group with little hope of qualifying. 1 point against the Scots, who we have only just overtaken in the rankings and yet 4 points against the Germans!

    22 places behind Bosnia in the rankings, but soaked up a lot tonight and took it all in our stride. Great finish from Walters for his 2nd.

    Some talk of a dodgy handball for the pen...but where better to end up than France after a dodgy handball!! :smiley:

    I know I'll be disappointed after the Denmark v Sweden game...already preparing myself to be in a foul mood.
    Still can't believe we finished below Albania. We don't really deserve to be at the Euro next summer anyway.

    If I said Ireland, some people would moan about it.

    Wanted Bosnia to get a result but towards the end of the first half their discipline was shocking and even tho it was a harsh penalty they only had themselves to blame.

    looked at the seedings this morning could potentially be;

    POT 1 – Germany, Spain, England, Portugal, Belgium, France

    POT 2 – Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Ukraine*

    POT 3 – Czech Republic, Sweden*, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary

    POT 4 – Turkey, Republic of Ireland, Iceland, Wales, Albania, Northern Ireland

    toughest group would be;
    Italy, Sweden, republic of Ireland

    most preferable would be;
    Austria, Slovakia, albania

    from the Irish independent;

    "A more favourable draw could see us paired with Roy Hodgson’s less than impressive England and these rivals:

    England

    Austria

    Hungary

    Republic of Ireland

    The draw for the finals will take place at the Palais des Congres de la Porte Maillot in Paris on Saturday, December 12th at 5pm Irish time.

    The perils of what may lie in wait can be considered another day as for now, all that matters right now is that Ireland are there."

    don't quite know where these journalists get this stuff "less than impressive" we've won every game. and were the 1st team to qualify behind the hosts france.

    We would fancy our changes against England, most so than any other team in pot 1.

  • I'd rather face Ireland than Turkey, Iceland or Wales.

    Ireland would rather face Portugal and even Belgium than England, without doubt.

    I was thinking England would probably be weakest until I spotted Portugal. If Ronaldo gets injured they're about as good as the pot 4 teams.

    Quite possibly because we've had a poor last couple of Tournaments when it comes to the World Cup... The Euros on the other hand, it was 2008 when we didnt qualify and 2000 when we last failed to get out of the Group.

    I know Ireland managed a draw with us last Summer but for me that was a friendly and a competitive match will be a whole new ball game

  • England have shown in qualifying that we are very good at beating the smaller nations, the Spain game that showed up our weaknesses against the stronger nations.

    We had a poor side out though in all fairness.
  • GREAT NEWS!!!..............Stephen Henderson is fully fit after his International exploits!
    Had David Forde in the cab today on his way home from Dublin (what a nice fella as well) talking to him about SH and making sure he hadn't picked up any injuries............said he (SH) had to be in training at 1o/c this afternoon as well!
    The big Millwall man was very complimentary about us saying we were a great club which was nice to hear. Talking to him about our ownership etc and he "understood" where I was coming from!!

    ps....gave me a decent tip as well!!

    I think Austria are better than some people are giving them credit for. I reckon they're one of the better teams in pot 2.

    Find it funny when teams are seeded below teams they qualified ahead of - eg NI/Romania, Slovakia/Ukraine and Iceland/Czech Rep

    I also think this tournament is really open
