Dougie Freedman leaves Bolton by 'mutual consent'

  • Gary Rowett would be a great shout for them.

Possibly but not sure they would be a great shout for Gary Rowett.
I guess it depends on the wages but as a club they are hardly doomed. I understand he turned down Blackpool when they came knocking but that's because they are 99% relegated already and with Burton possibly achieving promotion to the same division, it didn't make sense for him to move to a basket case club. I think it's a bit different at Bolton though. They do have huge debts but they have a patient owner and if Rowett kept them up, I have no doubt he'd be able to build his own squad next summer with resources akin to what Clark has at Birmingham. Thus he could see it as an opportunity to jump a level or two and position himself as a Championship level manager.

No, Millwall will go down with two other clubs that aren't Charlton.

    That's sorted
  • Not sure where all the stuff about leaving Palace for Bolton being financially-motivated comes from - I don't recall reading anything of that nature, and Parish said at the time that it was specifically not about money but more about his "burning desire to manage in the Premier League". Clearly he picked the wrong club to enable him to further that ambition.

Based on his time at Palace and last season at Bolton I'd say he warrants another chance at a Championship club.

The money story i was told by a Palace supporting mate who has "contacts" he told me that Bolton offered Freedman three times what he was on at Palace.

Edit: So could be rubbish but he has been right in the past, so i tend to believe him.
  • The papers at the time suggested he had been offered a £1.5m 3 year deal at Bolton

Worst career move. Palace challenging for a Bolton team on the wane.

Bolton are a club with high expectations, high debt, high deficit, average players and northern. Any manager would be mad to go there at the moment it's a perfect storm.

Could his ego cope with that?
  • forgot all about him, what a player he was for them in his day,

  • heard they are going to set up a five man committee including Fish and Jensen plus an ex-PL chairman and take their time to get the right man ;-)

Which involves a new man coming in on the 20th October winning their next match 5-0... Same with Magath, why cant these clubs wait until weve played them before sacking their useless manager!!
There was a time when big name maangers would resign / be sacked straight after playing us - Dalglish, Gullitt and Keegan - possibly
  • I bet Dervite is kicking himself now with our position

Maybe, but we've ended up with better players. TBH and Bikey or Dervite and Morro ? I know which pairing I prefer

I doubt it. He's still getting paid double what we could offer him.

And if Morro can't get a start, it would be unlikely that Dervite would.
  • Bumped into this which was written just prior to Freedman leaving. mannyroad.com/bolton-wanderers-can-we-have-the-truth-now-please/
It provides an interesting backdrop. The link to the Judge's ruling is worth reading as long as you've got the time!
Clearly all is not well at Bolton and hasn't been for some time. What is it with Bolton, managers and agents?
  • Although it's an occupational hazard, I always feel a bit sorry for managers who lose their job. I did, however, find Freedman's dour and smug approach irksome. He was also incredibly reluctant to give the opposition any credit, regardless of how well they'd played. I find that sort of lack of respect irritating.

Scottish managers in general for me. Apart from Gordon Strachan who I do find entertaining, listening to the likes of Freedman, Owen Coyle, Paul Lambert is like hearing the last rights being read. Unless they win, then it's eulogising over how great they are, but everything is against them. Coyle was the worst. That smug fat face when Bolton won a game in the Premiership.

Never got that with Alex Ferguson though, because he was so great I always felt he was above it. Might've moaned a tad, but I have so much respect for him it doesn't really matter what he said.

fergie always had nothing but good things to say about CAFC when he was asked as well. Not just with curbs but when under pards we played them and SAF said we were one of the best sides they'd played all season.
