  • How tragic. Some people’s life is just so tragic.

If he picked up a six stretch in ‘18 then he hasn’t served half his sentence so should be still inside. I’ll run a search when I go back to work on Monday and let Elfie know where to send his SAE.
I'd like a book please mate.

Perhaps I can get a visiting order.

I’m absolutely certain that he’d be only too happy to see you rock up for a face to face visit..........go for it Elfie.
  • Charlton can do without mindless morons

My question is why has a random newspaper article been dragged up onto a thread that is 4 years old.

Have a think for a second Golf, about what happened after the game last Saturday?

    Ring any bells?
  • He was booooo'd and became a better player , it works
  • Didn't he start at left back and wasn't all that, moved to central midfield and was outstanding.
  • That incident was a big turning point in his Charlton career. He became a popular player from then on.

  • Apparently according to the article we were "mindless marons",  I think I was wearing a cerise Fila that day...
  • I can confirm that i was not drunk, as i was only 9 years of age at the time

My recollection is that he was crap. He just stood around pointing. Complete waste of space.
  • He did it again at Leeds when captain.
In 1987, Charlton received an offer of £200,000 from Leeds United for Aizlewood. Despite resistance from manager Lennie Lawrence, Aizlewood decided to accept the move as the club were then managed by one of his boyhood idols, Billy Bremner.[12] Signed as a replacement for Ian Snodin, who had left the club to join Everton, he made his debut in a goalless draw with Sheffield United on 7 February 1987. He became influential almost immediately, missing just one league match for the rest of the season as Leeds finished in fourth position and went on to reach the play-off final, losing to his former club Charlton.[12] Aizlewood was also appointed club captain. However, the following season, Leeds struggled to repeat their good form, following the sales of Andy Ritchie and Ian Baird, and Bremner was sacked from his position as manager. Aizlewood himself became a target for some fans frustration and during a Second Division clash with Walsall at the end of the 1988–89 season, he reacted to jeers by Leeds' own fans by displaying a V sign, an offensive gesture in the UK,[13] to the crowd after scoring in the closing stages to make the score 1–0.[12] Leeds manager Howard Wilkinson quickly substituted Aizlewood, who blew kisses to the crowd and removed his captain's armband,[14] for David Batty. He reacted furiously toward Wilkinson and refused a seat on the bench, returning straight to the dressing room.[15]."

  • Is he still inside ?
  • Is he still inside ?
Unlikely, according to the wikipedia link.
  • Is he still inside ?
    Released a few years ago
  • Funny, when Aizlewood was really struggling, Killer told a couple of my mates who post on here that he was the best passer of the ball at the club. They thought he'd overdone the hospitality, but a year later he was proved right - MA was a major force in our 85-6 promotion season.
  • He was manager of Carmarthen who play in the second tier of the Welsh league. He was sacked when he was sent to prison but is back managing them again now.

  • was it fraud he went down for?
  • was it fraud he went down for?
    Yes, fraud regarding football apprenticeships.
He received a 6 year sentence.
  • Aizlewood in the article defends his actions by saying "The gesture was aimed at the mindless marons who get drunk and come to our home games just to abuse the players". How very dare he liken us fans that would turn up, come rain or shine, to freshwater crustacean resembling the crayfish!!!

    I dunno....had a curry ??

I suspect you are saying there is a link between a player giving a 2 fingered salute to his own fans 40 years ago and calling them morons to a manager having a dig at the fans after they questioned his team selections.

If so there are probably many plenty of other threads around on the subject that didn't mean having to resurrect a thread that started 10 years ago & was last posted on 4 years ago.

    But hey ho.
  • I will always remember him as a damn good player for us ..end of

Same here . Very good player
  • Was one of those players who seemed to be able to hang in the air when jumping for the ball.
